Re: NT 5.2 Build

Hello. I think this is posted in the wrong subforum; this discussion doesn't seem design-oriented. ROS is currently being built for Windows Server 2003 compatibility, not WIndows 2000. (As you said, NT 5.2, not 5.0). Shaky and unstable in what way? The mouse pointer is poor? How do you mean? What is...

Re: Recaptcha Warning

Where are you guys seeing the ReCAPTCHA on the wiki? I can't seem to find it anywhere but the "Create new account" page.

Also, what browser are you using? I'm using Chrome.

Re: Recaptcha Warning

Not to worry, Adcock, it looks like someone already made the necessary changes. I see the new version of ReCaptcha on the "Create new account" page.

Re: couldn't boot .4.7 install image

I don't know if I've ever heard of anyone installing ROS from (or onto) a CF card, so you might be in uncharted territory there. To answer the question you posted in the other thread, though: 0.4.7 is the latest stable release of ROS. 0.4.8 is a release candidate . If you click on the download page ...

Re: ReactOS: Internet Adapter not working in Virtual Machine

Post some screenshots of what you're seeing in VBox; this doesn't sound right. Also, based on the icon on your screenshot above, it looks like you build this VM as "Linux - Other 32 bit"? That completely changes the virtual hardware that's included by default in the VBox VM. You should sta...

viewtopic.php?f=4&t=16047#p128823

Once your VirtualBox has the correct virtual hardware, ROS should be able to see that and make use of it.

Re: Who first wrote the source code for ReactOS?

It's just a name I found in the sources. Don't know if their work was done for ROS, or simply used in ROS by someone else. Edit: So the name DJ Delorie only shows up in coff.h, so I assume this was used from him, not directly contributed by him. There's also this note in the FAQ file that's part of ...

Re: Who first wrote the source code for ReactOS?

Here's a link to the first commit, according to GitHub: https://github.com/reactos/reactos/commit/0f94427db073a20c24f9d85c8531fbe16490af43 The name I see a lot of there is David Welch . Also, Boudewijn Dekker and DJ Delorie . It's also fun to see a file from 1992 by Linus Torvalds in there. (bitops.h)

Re: Wine-Staging is being revived!

Wine-Staging is a build of Wine with all the latest patches and updates applied before those patches make it into the primary Wine builds. Think of it like a Wine release candidate / beta test build.

Re: How many of you still use Windows XP?

Just received the Firefox 52.6.0 ESR update for my Microsoft Windows XP system. Sadly, it looks like that will soon come to an end. FF 52 is last version to support XP/Vista: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/end-support-windows-xp-and-vista FF ESR 52 is slated to go EOL August 28, 2018: https:/...

Re: Cumulative Virtual Memory as a physical RAM for VM

Here's Windows 95 on an Apple Watch: https://blog.tendigi.com/i-installed-windows-95-on-my-apple-watch-589fda5e36d It's technically emulated, not virtualized (x86 on ARM), so it's a slower than it could be in theory, as the watch actually has specs comparable to a Win95 PC. It takes about an hour to...

Re: Why should I switch to ReactOS?

For some people, they need a system that can run older software or work with older hardware. A lot of embedded devices or industrial controls still operate on XP (or older) OSes. For some, the fact that ROS is free and open source immediately makes it better than Windows. No secret source code, no p...

Re: How many of you still use Windows XP?

VMs pass through it all right into the very same "unpatched outdated system" exposing it for those hordes of automated systems searching for intrusion into the machine through defenseless ports. ...these are prevented by browsers updates. it's their field of responsibilty. The reason I sa...
