This is like FS support, it'll all probably come as people with developing skills come to see the worth of using ROS as a greater value then the effort of making a subsystem/FS driver for their platform/disks.

It doesn't say it needs it to run, and you can say "No Java VM" and it'll install, but with a notice that some (probably minor) functionality will be disabled.

PS. I wouldn't be suprised if it is Compaqs fault, I've worked with them and they seem to have the propensity for screwing things.

NT4 was posted to RISC I think, so if ROS is ported also then it can easily capture that entire audience (Well, the ones that are still around and haven't jumped ship to Linux etc). The same for MIPS and Alpha.

In the end it'll probably end up with a way of changing the themes and icos like Windows does, I don't know what else would be beyond that...

The most interesting thing is undoubtedly that TCP/IP is just starting to peek out of Yerkes womb. Also, R3 rewrote "PagedPool" (Whatever that is) so it's like 8x faster.

It's NOT "the same" by a longshot, nor I think will it be when it's @ Version 1.0.0, but avoiding what MS does JUST because "MS does that" isn't going to make us the right friends, IMO.

As far as I know, the kernels starting out from 0 and writing from there. I know that some DLLs and such are being swapped with WINE, but I don't think WINE has an NTOSKRNL ;)

I'm strongly along with "Wierd_w", Windows 3.1 is not dead yet by a longshot and sooner or later ReactOS will need to support it (Considering what's needed now, it'll probably be later). Also, if/when ppl go to 64Bit, ROS being about to do both (Win16 AND Win64) as opposed to MS (Only W64)...
