Re: Linux drops support for i386

i don't think reactos should follow linux, linux doesn't have a hardware standard with each new release of lets say ubuntu keeps pushing the system requirements higher. i like linux don'tget me wrong i like linux but like i said they keep raising the bar and it's really getting annoying. Ehm... Lin...

Re: Reactos Market/Store/Marketplace/Play :)

On the subject of linux repositories. you are not really allowed to post anything and everything. it is more restricted to open source if you want any support from distro maintainers. You are generalizing here. At least on ArchLinux there is the Arch User Repository (AUR) (hosted on the distro's se...

Re: Different varieties of the OS

I don't see what the obsession over the ARMs are as I've never used them to my knowledge and likely won't anytime soon. I came close to using such in the 80's though. There were low cost computers that were advertised at an auto parts store of all places, but they were back ordered and they never h...

Re: Different varieties of the OS

I don't see a use in rewriting the OS or parts of it in assembly language. First it would be very hard to implement in the first place (except you use the assembly code generated by the compiler as a starting base...), but it would be also very hard to maintain. Also it wouldn't be as platform inde...

Re: Revision 55729 - introduce crash on purpose

A thought. On a few of these issues, why not create a ROS-specific registry hive for setting preferences? Not the null issue, but the others such as filename and registry key size. This is interesting... on the one hand you want to rewrite parts of the OS in assembly language on the other hand you ...

Re: Different varieties of the OS

The OS could be rewritten back into assembly, at least in places where it would make a difference (kernel, crucial services, and explorer). I don't see a use in rewriting the OS or parts of it in assembly language. First it would be very hard to implement in the first place (except you use the asse...

Re: ReactOS on ARM, a niche to fill?

The app may run happilly, but the user will watch sadly the slow performance of ARM cores slowed even further by x86 emulation. You do know that ARM cores are quite fast already? The one in my phone is a dual core processor clocked at 1.2 GHz. While putting the differences in the instruction set as...

Re: ReactOS on ARM, a niche to fill?

Forget about the WinRT hardware, Microsoft requires that manufacturers of Windows 8 ARM / Windows RT tablets lock them down so you can not install any other OS. (I hate living in a world where this is legal!) I have the feeling that we won't need to wait far too long to see hacked devices... the XD...

Re: Second dev contract posted

You don't think that a system that allows to automatically find bugs when an application is run on ReactOS is not worth 720€? This 720€ is for jimtabor to fix some old bugs in the win32 subsystem, not for making a bug finding system at all. You are probably referring to the AHK related work which i...

You don't think that a system that allows to automatically find bugs when an application is run on ReactOS is not worth 720€? Especially to find regressions this is a very important system and worth every cent! (IMHO)

Re: ReactOS Suggestions

I just heard about your project and I hope you do well with it. However, I do not believe it will work in its present form. As much as I hate MS, I am still stuck with it. I want a real alternative. You could give it to me. Microsoft was really smart when it dumped DOS and built it into its environ...

Re: These Shouldn't in ReactOS Start Menu

"Favorites" and "Recent Documents" shouldn't in ReactOS Start Menu. Why shouldn't those be in the Start Menu? I just checked on Windows 7: they are hidden by default, but they can both be switched on (and some other items as well). So if this isn't already the case in ReactOS I'...

Re: Arm Development and Raspberry pi

The point is not to uild ReactOS on a small board, the point is to make it easier to port ReactOS to ARM processors. That and the Raspberry Pi has an ARM processor that is (IIRC) the first one that makes it possible to port ReactOS, due to changes in the memory manager (or something like that). Sta...

Re: GRUB disc & in Windows installer.

Freeloader is an integral part of ReactOS like NTLdr is an integral part of any Windows NT system (or the newer counterpart in Vista+). So you can not simply replace it with a different bootloader, because Freeloader is responsible for loading the drivers which are marked as "start at boot&quo...
