The problem with Reactos is the target audience. Most people here seem to think that first target will be the average Joe. I'm sorry guys, but this won't happen, no chance a guy like this is going to even think about installing a new OS... :( No... but an OEM might very well install it for them. If...

Sometimes you don't need features, but literally just a 'notepad' for editing/viewing basic text files and keeping notes. Elledan is so right! The name "Notepad" suggests that this is a program for taking notes. I think it's important to remember that not everyone is a programmer w...

Re: Consider Notepad2.

I agree that ReactOS devs should be focusing on kernel and compatibility, rather than bundled-apps. IMHO, ReactOS and MS should spend less time on apps and more on the OS itself! I'd recommend Notepad2, it's smaller, faster, more M$-like, user-friendly, and is also freeware (GNU license). http://ww...

I voted No, way too complex for a default notepad replacement. It does look good in its own right and I might even start using it but way too complex for people that can bearly operate notepad. i disagree, when you open it it defaults to a MS notepad style of operation, only after you change settin...

Notepad++ is small and has a no-highlighting mode. I use it all the time for shell scripts, php and html coding and it is equivalent to GEDIT on Gnome (which is their default text editor). and it has tabs--tabs rule. I say use it or its equivalent (it's 800K) http://www.petri.co.il/free_notepad_repl...

A better question is, does ROS need to pass DoD requirements? I'm making an assumption here, but most of us that are interested in ReactOS is because it's trying to be Windows compatible. If any of us really wanted a POSIX compliant system, I think most of us have enough experience with technology ...

That is the shutdown dialog when you have the Welcome screen enabled. When you disable the Welcome screen (the way it should be :) ), you get the classic shutdown dialog with a combo box: http://fileanchor.com/37773-r.png i like this version of the log off screen. i still like the ubuntu one better...

A nice logonui.exe like the winxp one would be greate. Choose if you want to see the old Win2k login window or the new one from XP. Btw the edubuntu window looks a little bit to childish/strange (a common problem of linux guis i think) those icons are supposed to be childish. edubuntu is a distro t...

Or an ISO creator/editor is used/made available for the end user to image whatever they may need. I think Vista Enterprise is supposed to have that feature, and it would certainly be useful if ReactOS incorporated something like that in the future. vista comes with that because vista isn't "in...

Re: Package manager from CD/DVD/HD/LAN/Internet

I totally agree, there is sertainly good reasons to include a bunch of softwares on the Installation CD/DVD, but actually, this can be done with the Package Manager, it's just to make it able to choose from CD/DVD/HD/LAN/Internet as a source for the packages. Plus I do agree it should be possible t...

Re: Not a mistake now, but later...

I Agree that I am grately appreciated of having basically all the software to set up a server (Web Server, Domain Controllers, as well as a variety of other servers. I agree that the package manger is sufficient for now, but as the OS begins to approach 1.0 (hey even 4.0 series, as it is becoming p...

Re: Package manager.

Package manager will have this function. When ReactOS is installed you will be facing the Package manager, it will give you some standard suggestions, like: Server, WebServer, Client, Portable, Developer and Custom. These options each will chose for you a standard selection of software that will be...
