Linux subsystem for Windows

Post by Lachu »

Firstly, sorry for my English. Secondly, please don't blame on me, I will start this project to learn some thinks and maybe I don't full understand passthrought, etc.

Main goal of this project will be delivering way to use applications, which needs specific drivers under GNU/Linux systems, without virtualization stack. Also it could promote ReactOS.

I know running Windows programs with Wine is better solution than ReactOS, but:
- Thanks to this project ReactOS will get some love
- Some applications needs to load custom drivers

You must know, GNU/Linux already can use Windows network drivers, thanks ndiswrapper and printer driver, thanks ddwrapper. There's also Wine to run Windows applications,. My project will help in more complicated case: running application, which needs specific driver under GNU/Linux with best as possible integration with desktop environment.

The project:
- Will be system deamon (look at coLinux on WIndows)
- Can asks Linux to allocate/free memory
- Allows devices passthrought, like KVM/XEN
- Well integrate with GNU/Linux desktop and filesystem

I'm searching some helping hand. Where should I start? Who will help me with developing?
