[SUGGESTION] DVD-Audio support

Post by forart »

Seems that v.1 of libDVD-Audio has been recently released:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/libdvd-audio/

...and here's some other - maybe useful - resources to reach the goal: As always - of course - it would be better to *INVOLVE* 3rd-party software devs instead of just using their sources, IMHO.

Hope that helps, or at least inspires !

I've never actually seen a DVD-Audio disc. Or even a SACD for that matter. Do you have any DVD-A discs?
Today entirely the maniac there is no excuse with the article. Get free BeOS, DOS, OS/2, and Windows games at RGB Classic Games.

Wouldn't a stand alone application like VLC support this?

As long as we support the file system, yes. Thats the DVD problem we have... no UDF yet

What all is needed to be done with CC? There might have been some minor work or hacking there in recent months, but how much more needs to be done?

I have not seen a work of MM anywhere since r62xxx, including logs and branches. Is a ghost writing MM and CC?

Some devs are tinkering with it. There are branches, there are private SVN copies etcetc.

All are topics for a future blog post, perhaps.

I've made a .MP3 DVD before. I made it for storage, not so much listening. However, when I inserted it, WMP loaded up and treated it like a .MP3 CD and started playing. That's nice, having 3 days of music in one place. Too bad there are no devices to my knowledge outside of a PC/Mac that can read them. That would be perfect for a road trip. As for an uncompressed audio DVD, I know of no such CD nor device that can read it (outside maybe a PC). That would be about 6 hours of music.

This will probably never happen, the software licensing to play these codecs on your home computer is usually free, but distributing software that can play it involves paying hefty licensing fees to the patent holder. Just download a codec pack or vlc.

@PurpleGurl, I've seen both car stereos and home stereos that can play native mp3's. My friend's car stereo even has a USB port and can play mp3's from the USB flash drive (and can, of course, navigate folders). Not super common, perhaps, but it does exist.
