Where to get cheap USB flash drive giveaways in Europe?

Post by Colin Finck »

Hi all,

As more and more computers these days come without optical drives, we're thinking about switching from ReactOS CD giveaways to USB flash drive giveaways on exhibitions (like this month's FOSDEM). ReactOS would then come preinstalled in a VM on these drives. When ReactOS' USB support gets better, we may even think about making these drives bootable.

Now the prices for 1GB USB drives haven't quite reached the costs of blank CDs yet. Also many countries put a high fee on USB drives, because you will for sure always use them to pirate copyrighted work... For example, we're talking about a fee of 1€/unit here in Germany. Germany is fair enough though to not apply the fee if you're ordering from outside Germany. Maybe this also works the other way round, i.e. we as ReactOS Deutschland e.V. order USB drives from another European country and don't have to pay this fee.

Sooo, who of you knows a good supplier in your (European) country for bulk ordering USB drives with the best per-unit price? Even better if your supplier can print a custom logo on these drives.
Depending on the price, we're talking about 50-200 drives here.

Thanks for your help in making a great ReactOS presentation at exhibitions!

I had thought to put on dvd with the installer in ReactOS dvd book and then sell it at 2 euro each. The profits will then be donated to ReactOS.
PS: sorry for my english

You may like to try these which I found from a google search:

And if you are desperate:

Please keep the Windows classic 9x/2000 look and feel.
The layman's guides - debugging - bug reporting - compiling - ISO remaster.
They may help you with a problem, so do have a look at them.

I don't think USB flashdrives by Art Lebedev would be cheap, even if from cardboard. The gigs2go are probably cheaper, but still several times more expensive than other shops at $24.95 per four 1GB sticks.
They look very good, though :)

I think that it's a great idea to get them as cheap as possible, but it may be worth looking into a company that provides promotional products like pens, shirts, etc.

One example: http://m.hitpromo.net/#Product/C3B

The bonus here is that the price includes a logo silk screened onto the drive. ;)

I like the wafer ones.

Perhaps one could put the ReactOS logo and name on it? It seems one can print on both sides. Perhaps a ROS wallpaper on one side and ROS information on the other?

Are American companies off-limits?

Post by justincase »

Sorry, but I don't know any European companies that supply flash-drives, customised or not. (except for the ones I just found out about by reading the above posts :|)
But I don't see why you're limiting it to European companies, so I'll add CustomUSB to the list. (you can of course ignore it if being a non-European company is really such a problem)

Anyway, CustomUSB has a number of different flash drives to choose from (including most of the styles pictured above), and most, if not all, can be ordered with a custom logo either printed, or laser engraved, or if you want something really special they'll work with you to design a truly Custom USB drive.
They'll also preload data on the drives, and they'll do SuperSpeed USB 3 drives if you want.
Oh, and their Customer Support responds really quick, and they'll do rush orders if your in a hurry.

And for the record, I've never had a problem with my PortableApps.com Companion, which they make & sell (sending some portion of the money to PortableApps.com).

Edit - I forgot to add a link :? www.CustomUSB.com
I reserve the right to ignore any portion of any post if I deem it not constructive or likely to cause the discussion to degenerate.

Well, if you're "importing" stuff from outside EU into EU and it reaches a certain value (not too hard to reach when ordering 50-100 pieces of something), you'll have to pay for customs and VAT, so you may not save money at all. There also may be some red tape requirements considering it's for the foundation, but that is pure speculation on my part.

No clearing customs, no VAT (value-added tax) hassles, much less Papierkrieg*...

* a much more evocative word than "red tape". We English speakers should borrow it.
