Obstacles around widespread ReactOS adoption

Post by erkinalp »

Windows is proprietary, however, it has good enterprise support. ReactOS is free software as in basic freedoms despite not being in philosophy since it is licenced under GPLv2. Some institutions and companies have problems about adopting(really) GPL software. ReactOS has no formal support as of now either. What can be done for more widespread adoption of ReactOS?
-uses Ubuntu+GNOME 3 GNU/Linux
-likes Free (as in freedom) and Open Source Detergents
-favors open source of Windows 10 under GPL2

This is not a problem at the moment... there is only an offical project, ant there are not distributions.

Linux has the same problem, but product support, updates and warranties are supplied by the various distribution companies.

For reactos has is own foundation that, i hope, will provide support in future.

It's too early talk about support for a product in alfa stage....

The fundation or other distribution company can also release a partial closed source version
of reactos with copyrighted/licensed software inside as some big companies do with linux.

No, ReactOS Foundation does not have necessary copyright assignments, in addition, makes use of code from other open source projects.

Copyright is not problem, licenses of use and distribution can be aquired for closed source software,
but reactos fundation don't need them at the moment.

Using software from other project is also not a problem until the license is compatible,
linux distribution does'nt include code from only one project, please read this:

ReactOS at present is missing significant core functionality. That more than anything else prevents any sort of widespread adoption. We're nowhere near the point where legal considerations come into play.
