Firefox will give up WinXP, we'd let ReactOS no be affected

Post by Vladimir-Suzdal »

Firefox will give up WinXP, we should let Firefox work well on ReactOS.

Recently Mozilla developer intended to update Unicode character data to version 9.0, which rely on ICU library. BUT ICU 58 dropped support for WinXP, so they decided to dropped support for WinXP. If this is affected ReactOS, we should let Firefox don't recognize this as WinXP.

The way you "drop support" for an OS is to simply require functions or features not available to that OS. Since ReactOS aims higher than WinXP, we "should" be fine. (But remember, it IS alpha, so expect bugs & other problems.)

But they are dropping Vista support too. Vista is newer than 2003 Server...

Vista too? Huh, I hadn't realized that.

It would still be on ReactOS, I believe, to maintain compatibility.

FF 52 appears to be the last version of Firefox that can install on Microsoft Windows XP SP3 or Microsoft Windows Vista. Apparently Mozilla now plans to put FF 52 on ESR (Extended Service Release). When that happens only security fixes will be made. No EOL (End Of Life) date for FF 52 ESR has been announced at this time. Apparently there will be a Firefox version that installs and runs securely on Windows XP or Vista for a long time to come.
