Make ARM (rpi 3) run x86 REACT OS - fun & useful

Post by vishalmadan »

I appreciate the developers of REACT OS and its helpful community
I was wondering to start a special topic for running REACT OS on ARM systems (rpi 3)
not a ported version it will be of no use, but just like QEMU (not qemu as an os runs on it qemu emulates another os on it wine runs which emulates windows environment - SLOW..... itn't it)
REACT OS is windows like so no need for emulator just a bridge required to translate x86 system and apps to arm
if you guys develop some sort of thing that just works on backend without bothering user and users just use your OS without knowing there is some sort of emulation or bridge working in between, IT WOULD BE MAGICAL

REACT OS consumes less than 100MB RAM with this done if it consumes double RAM its of no harm and system wont be slow

This will also bring ARM devices under REACT OS shield and the community and users will also increase

I'm not a developer so i'm of no good in coding but thought to create a topic to start new discussion and expand REACT OS and make RPI 3 do wonders with it

It's not really a problem to get ROS working by QEMU as you already said, but your idea won't make things way faster. You need to reinterpret any command to any library + the binary as a whole. This would be something as complicated as our NTVDM currently is which does not even support 16 bit Windows apps yet.
ReactOS is still in alpha stage, meaning it is not feature-complete and is recommended only for evaluation and testing purposes.

If my post/reply offends or insults you, be sure that you know what sarcasm is...

Wasn't there someone doing work to translate the op codes from x86 to arm during runtime at some point (or was that PPC)? Either way Microsoft may have picked it up as they announced their new Windows phones will be able to run win32 from arm.

Although it would be interesting to see ReactOS running on an ARM processor, like Raspberry PI (if that is what you are talking about),
BUT ReactOS would be more likely to work on a single board x86 computer like LattePanda: http://www.lattepanda.com/
(they come flashed with Windows 10, not sure if the OS can be changed).

You don't have to use that one. There are other x86 embedded and single board solutions.

As for ARM, while it would be a fun endeavor, what would be the point? I mean, what will you do when there is no software that will run since none of the x86 apps come compiled for ARM.

I've accumulated relevant and useful information for ReactOS on ARM development and created a thread: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=17977
