Exactly. Only Win7 and Vista had em and then they were abandoned. Feel free to try this: http://8gadgetpack.net/
ReactOS is still in alpha stage, meaning it is not feature-complete and is recommended only for evaluation and testing purposes.

They can be emulated as borderless UWP apps in Windows 8 and 10.
-uses Ubuntu+GNOME 3 GNU/Linux
-likes Free (as in freedom) and Open Source Detergents
-favors open source of Windows 10 under GPL2

I am sure but that's not really the point :) I can emulate an Atari ST1024 but it isn't an intrinsic Win10 feature as were those Windows gadgets on their original host - Vista.

We don't want to lead the OP astray. He's back on the path now.

I know Rainmeter is not what you wanted.
But I still think that you should try it.
3.3.3 Final Release works on Windows XP and should work on ReactOS too.
I haven't tried ( on ReactOS ) though.

Deviantart has lots of customizations for it.

Oh and btw, it's released under GNU GPL v2.

Note : Latest versions of Rainmeter are no longer supported on Windows XP.

That's the thing, it needs Windows 8 - the hint is in the name. As the man said get in touch with the developer. Even if it was not specific to Win 8 it would still not yet work on ReactOS.

So, run it elsewhere and/or Rainmeter, Xwidgets or Yahoo widgets all of which provide gadgets/widgets on Windows 7-10.
Just don't do it yet on ReactOS as none of them will work - as you would expect.

So, back to the Original Topic. Those desktop gadgets are native to Vista NT6 and not really applicable to implement within a NT5 compatible o/s.

nothing is impossible ... but all is done yet

i do not expect that ReactOS will work with Windows Apps > NT but as EmuandCo say : Feel free to try this

old native Control use GDI to render
Window > NT use DWM and visual Style.

what about render with HTML :?:
there a render-engine like HTMLayout (old) / Scripter, both are open Source ...
i knew a Company who have enhance visual Style with HTMLayout engine.
