Roadmap to 0.5.0
I was reading over the roadmap that was set for 0.5.0 from back in feb 2016.
https://www.reactos.org/wiki/0.5.0
I was wondering what you think about how far ROS has come since, what is left on the list and if you think we will be able to hit this milestone in 2018.

Re: Roadmap to 5.0
It looks like they're still a little far behind, may take a few more versions. Not sure how many, could take a few months to several years.

Re: Roadmap to 5.0
Many improvements and major feats were achieved since 0.4, but it's a LONG way. Kernel standing alone, has LOTS of bugs, flaws and unimplemented stuff.

Re: Roadmap to 5.0
I suppose 0.5.0 was meant, not 5.0.
Do not let thoughts of roadmap trouble you. ReactOS roadmap is not a plan and certainly not a promise. It reflects the intentions and best guesses of the development team (dev team) when they last took time out to discuss work yet to be done. On the rare occasions when the dev team publishes or revises the roadmap in the ReactOS Wiki, they do this more for the satisfaction of those of us in the cheering section who are rooting for the team rather than for the benefit of the dev team themselves.
Do not expect 0.5.0 to be reached in 2018.

Re: Roadmap to 5.0
0.4.5 official release - May 18, 2017
0.4.6 official release - September 1, 2017 (~4 months from previous)
0.4.7 official release - December 6, 2017 (~3 months from previous)
0.4.8 official release - April (??) 2018 (~5 months from previous)
Projections based on this data:
Averaging about 4 months between releases....
0.4.9 perhaps August 2018
0.5.0 perhaps December 2018
So it's possible that we could see 0.5.0 this year yet, but don't go getting your hopes up. This also assumes that ROS doesn't end up releasing something like 0.4.9.2, etc.

They could also do 0.4.10, 0.4.11, etc.

Re: Roadmap to 5.0
Wrong. When ReactOS reaches 0.4.9 version it'll pass to 0.4.10 and so forth. For ReactOS to reach Beta (0.5.0) phase you have to take into account the stability, compatibility and reliability of the Operating System. All these factors contribute to the impact of ReactOS state if it deserves the Beta release-state.karlexceed wrote:So it's possible that we could see 0.5.0 this year yet, but don't go getting your hopes up.
When the developers have the feeling that ReactOS meets the factors above then they'll pass through Beta phase. The 0.5.0 roadmap is not a fixed one, they're just ideas and suggestions for the future to come. At this moment, ReactOS doesn't have enough manpower to accomplish such roadmap like this.

I guess and ask my stomage feeling: 2022 until beta
Re: Roadmap to 5.0
I agree with Fraizeraust's advice.
However, the more impatient among us can hope that ReactOS reaches the minimum viable product state before ReactOS reaches the feature complete state. This would be very minimum. ReactOS might be usable by skilled computer technologists for one or more narrow purposes before all ReactOS features are implemented.
ReactOS requires much work before it can be declared feature complete. I applaud what the ReactOS development team has achieved so far.Wikipedia: Software Release Life Cycle, Beta wrote:Beta phase generally begins when the software is feature complete but likely to contain a number of known or unknown bugs.

Fair points, everyone. I just love my base 10 so much I wasn't even thinking about these things.Fraizeraust wrote:For ReactOS to reach Beta (0.5.0)
Re: Roadmap to 5.0
I know the release notes say it boots in 96MB but... I was booting RC0 in much less than that not sure why the release seems to need more?
Re: Roadmap to 5.0
Hey, we also have this topic. to discuss.

Hi, does anyone in the know have any thoughts on the current state of progress?
