Only 1 student this year?

Did we really only just get 1 student for GSOC this year or has the page not been fully updated yet? All previous years we have gotten at least 3-4 students. This is kind of a downer. https://summerofcode.withgoogle.com/org ... 621191168/#!

Just depends on how many people join and what they want to code.

And this student is going to make ReactOS bootable from btrfs. Wonderful!

Btrfs? Well now we can end the saying that "ReactOS can only boot off of FAT File Systems."

And btrfs supports snapshotting. You will be able to revert to a previous installation if it bricks.

Well if i'ts only one student that's gonna make almost zero difference to ReactOS progress :(

Don't be sorry.
Have no fear, core devs are here. :)

The goal of GSoC is not necessarily to make progress during the summer, it is for the students to become long-term contributors to open source. Having only one student means the student will have more support and the project can focus better, so they're more likely to stick around.
That's one of the reasons we decided one slot was the right way to go (in addition to the fact that none of the other proposals were as good... for example no other students met the contribution requirement).

Do you suppose getting Btrfs working could could help making other filesystems bootable?
like using it as a template or something.

I don't think so.
Because ROS can already boot from FAT.
But that could not help making other filesystems bootable!

I think that devs want to support BTRFS because it is the next ZFS and has a suitable license ( GPL ) too.
Besides, an already implemented driver ( of BTRFS ) for MS Windows is available.

[ Note : This is my personal opinion. ]
