ReactOS | Driver Key

Post by mrmajik45 »

I can't find "Driver Key" for any devices in Device Manager. device -> properties -> details -> dropdown list -> no driver key option

I tried mrmajik45's sequence on Microsoft Windows XP SP3 Home Edition. I did not see "Driver Key" in the drop-down list. Is that an NT6 feature? Or, was "Driver Key" called something else in NT5?

A Bing search with the string 'windows "driver key" ' returned this result:
Microsoft's Introduction to Registry Keys for Drivers wrote:A driver's software key is also called its driver key because the registry contains a software key for each driver.

I think the concept exists... Device Manager just doesn't show it for some reason.
DevicePropertyDriverKeyName seems to be present and working on Win2003 and ROS, and the 'Driver' registry value is present, it's only in devmgr that it doesn't exist. So perhaps the reason is simply that it wasn't considered important by the devmgr developers at the time, whereas they later switched to a "show everything" philosophy.

For what, "ReactOS perfectly mirrors what Windows 2003 does"? That's not going to be considered useful.
