Will the ReactOS installer boot from a SATA non-Optical Drive?

Post by johnsongomes »

I'm thinking of using a test machine and booting from a 16GB SATA SSD. I know it won't boot from USB, but will the installer boot from a SATA drive?

I don't know, but I'm curious myself. Give it a try and let us know your results!

Well, in theory, yes, since it's just a plain old hard drive that would be supposedly mapped to the optical drive instead of the actual optical drive. I don't actually know much about how this works so I may just be totally in the wrong here, however with my limited info, I think it getting to boot in this state might prove a bit hard to do since it's technically not an optical drive and therefore the BIOS doesn't attempt to show the entire "press button A to boot media" and it's not automatically mapped as the D:/ drive but those should be circumventable.
