We really need a Bounty-based development model
This is a viable solution for funding open source development !
Donation is not something that call for atention, and people like to give, ,but with a Bounty system, all part are beneficied( project get some talented money need developers, and grow faster, users gets that they need, but can do theyself , and developers get reward for their hard work)
Here my idea :
We have an auto Php system integrad with some paypal system .
The user input in this system what he want, for example "devices manager" and send the amount of money
Other user see this , and like to be implanted too, so he send some more money to this
One developer see this, and accept the bounty, and after the work done , and review as valid, he get the money.
And a percentage of all bounty go to reactos fund , this is to help the project, and to pay the developers that deserve it( many developers work hard on internal)
What the project administrators and the community think about ??

It should not be integrated into phpbb2 (a bit unsecure for such a task and we may switch to phpbb3 in future), better code something from scratch (prefered: php & mysql).bratao wrote:terrance,
Maybe you can send what you already done ,
I can do it alone easy, but with a level of integration with the site, will need a great lerning curve, and take time that i dont have
About the website integration:
Assume that the user name & ID is stored in an external mysql table (read-only access) and keep the user's data (ID, Name, Money, etc.) in an user table in the "Bounty system" mysql database.
Use the website css file: http://www.reactos.org/style.css
Try to integrate paypal (and other pay systems like http://checkout.google.com ) service(s).
Resources:
http://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cm ... nt-outside
https://checkout.google.com/seller/developers.html

I completely agree that a bounty system would be great for ReactOS.
A while ago a similar site was set up for Haiku (BeOS clone): http://www.haikubounties.org/

frik85 or terrance,
I need to talk with some of you guys,
And by the way, here is what i already done( still many things to do)

Hi, I first would like to see counter how much money has been donated to ReactOS (see Wikipedia website for example).
Also is there some update on the bounty system?
I suggest a moderated bounty submission system (perhaps a subforum) , where users can discuss "wanted" ReactOs extentions.
This way people with about the same goals can group together, to define the folowing:
1. "sub"-project (developers or moderator should oversee that projects are "small" and doable)
2. Discription what to do?
3. Time frame to do it
4. How to check if the work done, before payment (check is done by a coordinator), will there be partly payments etc.
Basically somekind of Google's Summer of Code, but then sponsered by the community. BTW, some part of bounty (e.g. 10%) should be used as a general donation for general Reactos Foundation costs.
I have read some developers concerns on a bounty system, but I think it would really boost ReactOS development when implemented right.
I myself would love to donate but I would dislike the money to be used for goals I do not support (that's keeping me from donating rightnow).
For example: If I would like to see Printer Device Support getting more attention with the ReactOs project, when I do a general donation, I have no control wether my donation is used for this. My donation could e.g. be used for DirectX development which is no interest to be me at all....
A bounty system could definetly set community focus on some ReactOS modules and it would be the developer's choice to do develop bountied modules or to develop modules HE/SHE find more important.
If bounties get very high, some developers could even consider to develop modules as a dayjob.
BTW, I really like what Bratao initially made:

I fully agree that bounties would help this project. Coincidently I talked with frik85 about it today and he said that the bounty system from Michael Wirth (terrance) is already 90% finished. But is such a bounty system really necessary for you to make bounties ?
I think that already now you could just write an email to our project coordinator Aleksey Bragin (aleksey(at)studiocerebral(dot)com) and he would be happy to take you detonation and to forward it to the developer who implements a specific feature. You could even set up such a bounty for bounty system.
EDIT: In the future please do not bring up such a old topic again, but open a new one and include a link.
EDIT2: I think that the the person who sets up the bounty and the developer should agree, if and how much money should go to the reactos foundation.

Where do you want ReactOS to go today ?
Instead of a bounty system for developers, how about a pledge system for the ReactOS Foundation? Example: Somebody might say, I will donate $X to ReactOS for a fully functional USB stack. Other people might chip in, some developer steps in, does it, and although they don't get any money, ReactOS as a whole does. It's not so much an incentive for developers to develop as it is for people to donate. Not the greatest idea, but a thought.
