What about a mascot for ReactOS? We already got a logo: The ReactOS atom. But I guess its important to have also a mascot like tux for Linux. In my opinon it must look sweet like these four ones:

What about a tiger? The characteristics of a tiger would fit to a operation system: Fast, smart, clever...
Unfortunately my painting skills are very poor. So I'm not the man for grafical proposals. Maybe one of you is the man for this? Or what are your proposals for a mascot?

this is my first post in the new forum, but I've started a similar same thread about a year ago in the old forum.

What ReactOS devs are doing is taming the beast, so if I were to choose from feline, I'd vote for a cat rather than a tiger.

Tiger is taken by Apple anyway.

BSD daemon is a, well, a Unix daemon. You become a daemon when you fork into background. That's obvious.

Linux's Tux was chosen because Linus liked penguins :) There are several articles on the history of Tux in the net, just google.

Personally I don't think you can make a crow look as sexy and affectionable as a fat little pengiun :-)

gazelle: grace, beauty and speed
kangaroo: quick, balanced, and ready to box
rhino: strong, powerfull and tough

something that eats multicolored buterflies would be a plus

What about a soft worm?? like the childrens toys.
A wolf?? Intelligent, eficient, strong and fast

Well, having a fat, happy penguin as a mascot doesn't seem to have harmed Linux much, and besides, the mascot doesn't have to be (part of) the logo as well, nor does the mascot necessarily have to be portrayed in a 'cute' fashion if it's incorporated into the logo. Abstract logos get boring after a while.

Also, since ROS will also be aimed at the unwashed masses, so to speak, it might be a good idea to have a somewhat interesting/cute mascot.
