windows xp bootloader (ntldr) can be used to load ReactOS. ReactOS adds an entry to boot.ini (ntldr's config) for freeldr if ntldr is detected during setup.
So, it's possible to dual boot reactos with win2k/xp without problems.

I use Acronis OS Selector to load freeldr which then loads reactos.

That's no problem, however the partition where freeldr.sys gets installed on must be primary and fat16/32.

Try pressing F8 while booting (start pressing it when control goes from the BIOS to Windows). XP's boot menu (not really a boot loader) is really limited in what it can do.

Every Os needs a boot loader.

If the Primary partition is fat16/32, it should setup freeldr automatically  However, haven't tried this yet but it should work.
