Reactos Automatic Updates????

Post by andrewweb »

ReactOS needs some sort of system eventually to keep it up to date.

The most sensible system, IMHO, would be to simply auto update when a new version is released.

The updater would simply see what version of reactos you have, then look at an online list showing files that are different in comparison to the new version. It would then download these files, and would replace current versions and change any registry entries with it, then reboot the system.

Think this would work??? Please comment! :)

You really should search forum before you open a new topic, to avoid same issues being talked over and over.

Autoupdate

Post by Jaix »

Yes, an autoupdate system will be needed in the future, I don't know how this is going to be done, but something like your suggestion will probably be the solution.

Perhaps it will be a part of the download application.

i asked Fireball about this and i think they are aware of it. He said that it is too early yet to release an update plan. Maybe at beta stage.

you can't just autoupdate when a new version is released, it's much more complicated than that.

Updates will be tackled much later on, somewhere between 0.5 and 1.0.

Don't worry, I have some ideas on how it should be done, as I'm sure some of the other devs have too. We've even occasinoally spoken about it between us in the past
