development seems too slow

Post by dark »

(Please read the entire thread before repeating telling me to help with programing 100 times, i don't know how to. >added April 10)

Don't get angry at me because this is just my observation.

The development of reactos seems to be going too slow, by the time its finished it seems microsoft could release "longhorn" and whatever comes a few years after that.

I"m not a programer (i've tried learning), but I think we should try to attract a lot of developers. Do stuff like publicity stunts, or whatever firefox was doing in its early versions. (I didn't know about firefox until 1.0 made news by overloading servers.)
(Also i'd like to keep reactos small because i can download it on my phoneline. :D )

This project started years ago, since then coders have taken to us this 0.3 wonderful alpha version.

I don't expect fastest developement in some months, maybe after 0.3 or 0.4, when more developers get interested in this project.

Now I see a good potential in it, and I hope with 0.3/0.4, we'll see a more better and capable product (not ready to use, but it will show it is a serious software, and also will show that it will rock when gets stable).

Sign up to the svn and dev mailing list and you'll see that's not true. All the work is happening under the hood. Once the underlying infrastructure is in place, you will start to see changes happening toward the user end.

Look out for new features like usb support, pnp, opengl, networking progression, which are currently under development.

Your right about needing more devs, expect this to grow as the project becomes ripe.

RE the publicity stunts, there are a few things lined up for the release of 0.3, mainly via magazine coverage.

Keep the faith.

Or you can do like me; if you don't want to swamp your e-mail with extra mails you can still keep reading the list via Mailing lists -section of the site.

If I knew how to program I would, sorry but I've tried to learn but i can't find anything that teaches and explains well enough to make sense of it. that and usualy I can't keep interest in some of them because it takes too long to see results.

like stated above, development is going to above average speed. there was a website in irc that rated open source projects by svn/cvs/etc patches and reactos is up there. and also like stated above once the networking on real hardware is semi useable i think this project is going to sky rocket.

The development of reactos seems to be going too slow
...so why don't you code for the project ?

Do you know SkyOS ?
It's a 2-coding machines-developers closed source OS that is growing really fast, so if you can help te ReactOS dev team do it !
If you can't try to spread the popularity of the OS so they can get in touch with other developers/donators.

Don't waste your time on the forum with useless 3ads anymore...
