Reacty Does not add self well to game.

Post by oiaohm »

Good game char has to have expression. Clippy and Tux are good.

Could some people just do Reacty with some expressions would start a few Ideas.

Supertux and all the Tux games work because of Tuxs good looks.

I think a 2d platform game would be cool. A figure of Reacty, running and jumping through levels with incredible speed, agility and (compatiblity?) would be very promotive.

The enemies you have to kill could be pieces of malware and bloatware (anybody have any ideas as to how they could be drawn?).

The final goal you have to reach could be complete compatibility with windows, and then there would be millions of users, all sitting in a HUGE stadium waving and cheering for reacty.

It sounds pretty kooky to me. Let me know what you think.

I have coding skills, but most of all I'm willing to work on the art. I already have a rendering of reacty sitting on my hard drive. I'll post it on the net if anyone's interested.
I really like your ideas :D Lot of artwork is needed for this project, so you are more than welcome. Add your name to wiki. I look forward to see your Reacty character :P

Here is my suggestion for the story, I also add it to wiki, so anyone can comment and edit it:
"Reacty is lost into OS-land and finding his way back to home. He will meet many frendly coders on the way and they will help him to pass through different kind of hitches (other operating systems have set up barriers and blocks ower the way). There is also lot of evil bugs, malware and bloatware that is trying to kill Reacty. In the end Reacty will found his way into safe and familiar ReactOS -operating system and he can make ReactOS even better and more compatibility by using all the information gathered in his trip."

Here is some more ideas:
  • Maybe the real names or aliases of ReactOS main developres could be used for the coders that Reacty meets in his trip. But everyone have to be asked if he wants his name to be used!

Bugs may look like microchips, pins whould be their legs.

and once again I'm using this forum to brag about one of my half-baked games. :)
http://www.romanhoegg.ch/Giana_Beta.zip
(It's a Giana Sisters clone.)
I did this about a year ago. It's not finnished yet but maybe some of it could be used in a Reacty platform game... (Or maybe better not. because my code looks terrible.)

Well, microchips aren't very menacing. ;) How about just bugs (as beetles and such), of course it has to include the original moth! 8)

All you really wold need to is attach Mr. Potato-like hands and legs to that atom, give it a eyes and mouth and there you go.

Random idea: How about when Reacty is idle he would be trying to slap those electrons, like they would be fly's buzzing around his head.
Can't provoke anyone? Why bother posting?

Ok, these are only very primitive renderings of some of the characters.
I did them ENTIRELY myself, not stealing a single pixel from anybody else.

I realize they have many errors, so please give me feedback on how to improve!

This is Reacty, in a kind of come-and-get-it gaze:

This is a bug, with it's 4 error shooters.

Hmmm. Nice, original idea. I like it.

What about a fighting game, Reacty vs Clippy vs Tux vs a bunch of other enemies. ;)

or what about a Mario Party like game? "Reacty's Party"?
With optional network support? (=either everybody plays on one computer or over the net)

I think it would be ideal project for the developers of the game. Once the main framework is finnished the minigames could easily be developed by independant developers of various skill levels. (and of course it would be a fun game)

Nice character designs, AcetoliNe! :)
Glad you like them! They were made in a hurry though, and I'd really like feedback on how to improve.

That sounds good :). Mascot fight! It's a really brainy and original idea. Reacty vs. Tux vs. Clippy vs. Beastie vs. Darwin vs. ...

I've always liked fighting games.

I'm in more favour of the side scroller, though 8)

In that case:

- The bug looks pretty much perfect. Simple colours, easy to recognize. Looks somewhat evil yet cute at the same time :)

- 'Reacty' looks a bit weird, though, akin to a silver sphere, with tiny 'tentacles' as limbs. Especially with this figure as a smaller character in a 2D side-scroller it'll be somewhat hard to recognize. I'd simplify it more (body), make it cuter (mouth, eyes, limbs).

All IMHO, of course ^_-

Thanks for the suggestions, Elledan.
Okay, this is a re-rendering of Reacty.
I definately like this one better:

It still needs work, so keep the suggestions coming!
I'm also working on a virus. Anybody have any ideas?

But of course :) .

I want one!

I had something like this in mind, too. I kind of like the design of H.I.V. and the Beer Yeast. Perhaps with a little modification (and some slashing of the 'cuteness' factor)...
