[Video] Opera 9.64 running on ReactOS

Post by vicmarcal »

Hi,
I have written a small review of Opera 9.64 in the Spanish ReactOS Blog, and for this purpose I have recorded a video running Opera 9.64 on ReactOS.
Maybe you won't be able to read the Spanish Blog but this video shows the INCREDIBLE performance of Opera 9.64 on ReactOS: No graphic glitches, smooth scrolling, fast response, fast browsing...Does it bet Windows XP performance?
Watch it!Try it!And Enjoy it!

I've tested Opera in ROS too, and it feels great, when your beloved browser works fine in ROS... Another victory for the ROS will be correctly working newer versions of Opera :)

I concur. After comparing FF3 and Opera 9.64 running on debug trunk, on latter i was able to watch youtube and similar smoothly. On Firefox, there was just one large slideshow.

Is this ReactOS one real hardware? What about Opera 10.60? Not starting, too much buggy or crashing?

I have tested Opera 10.60 beta 1 in ReactOS rev.47918 compiled with RosBE (are buildbot alive?) under VirtualBox. Opera starts but work very buggy, when started it does not load any start page, you can't input URL in address line, new tabs are opening but you can not close them neither by selecting and clicking "Close tab" in context menu nor by [x] button on the tab (when you do so, small button [x] on tab starts blinking and nothing happens). It's a pity, because i like this browser, at least Opera v9.64 works well and that's fine.

Thank you. By the way, I was intending to say "...on a real hardware?".

Well, really you should expect a better improvement in Real Hardware(Virtualizers are slower than RH), you can find issues with the NIC hardware compatibility. But if your NIC is ReactOS compatible, then it will work as good as video shows.

The system requirements of Opera have alwas ben quite low. Up to Opera 9.x the minimum OS reqired has been Windows 98, since 10.x its Win 2000.
Minimum configuration for Opera:

Windows 2000 on a Pentium II
128 MB of RAM
20 MB of free disk space

Although Opera may run on older hardware and older versions of Windows, it will be less usable. If you are using such hardware or software, you may be better off installing a legacy version of Opera.
Obviously Opera 10.60 works in Win 98 using KernelEX:

The fault was a missing entry in kernel32.dll. ( GLOBALMEMORYSTATUSEX )
Is GLOBALMEMORYSTATUSEX already implemented in ReactOS? :?:
