I say again - look to BeOS. It run faster than NT and use gui server. BeOS use special IPC called "ports" and shared memory "areas". Also BeOS app_server use high level drawing engine. I don't think that it is impossible on NT.
And microsoft debug and make stable gui server before make it as kernel module.

If you have a problem with the reactos/windows architecture, fine. But do not hijack a thread! Open a new one instead.

ReactOS is still in alpha stage, meaning it is not feature-complete and is recommended only for evaluation and testing purposes.

This topic is already used for ARWINSS and YAROTOWS, that's why I asked for something new and less geeky ;)

That last one (WINX) is funny, but the last char looks like a symbolic human with his head pointing downwards, like they draw on various hazard signs ;).

N.B. Please use other threads to discuss X11 vs. Windows, BeOS vs. X11, etc. It's a place to propose a new name and logo, not a place for discussion what technology is better.

N.B. nr. 2: Igorko said the right thing! It's not a name for a new OS, or a fork of ReactOS, it's just a name for Arwinss subsystem. Also, WineReactOS, ReactOSWine, RosWine, WineRos and similar simplest acronyms don't worth consideration. At the very least, any of the ROS devs could think that up by himself.

When I first saw this I thought it was a geeky way to write the word wings

Perhaps time to collate, shortlist and start a vote?

I'd personaly go with Portwine. If you consider how port wine is made (fortified wine made with specially selected grapes), I think it'd be the perfect metaphor and it's also easy to pronounce.

With initial one looking more as a bud and then using a "blooming" flower as the port reaches maturity.

How about FreeNT?

Post by MazeMage » Fri Apr 01, 2011 7:15 pm

I don't know if this was brought up yet but FreeNT sounds like a pretty nice name. (Think FreeDOS)

Here's a logo mockup:

There's also an PSD-file if anyone feels like making it less sketchy...
