ReactOS Facebook Group Page
Hey everyone,
I've created a ReactOS group page on facebook, so more interaction will become available between the community and the dev team.
I understand that the forums are doing an excellent job keeping everyone posted, and IRC is also good for keeping in touch, but having a facebook group page seems to me to be the "live" option of contacting each other...
Also, I think more effort should be put on the Internet medium, I don't think there is much emphasis on this medium...

Nice initiative ArmyMan007!
But since I don't use Facebook on a daily basis how can I tell which ReactOS Facebook page is fake or real?
A search for ReactOS on Facebook gives me this many results:

Hey Witch,
All of the pages that you have given do relate to the project, but my ambition is to create the group from within these forums. Since no one actually bothered to open up a facebook page and notify the whole community, I wish to do just that.
The link on my first post is the link to the newly created group. Hopefully the broad community will join up too.

Hey guys!
So far, the group grew by 4 members! It may be just a start, but it's real positive one.
If more people can join up that would be great! As before, the link on my first post will direct you to the group page.
Let's make this work!

I'm sure there is an official Facebook page, but it seems rather inactive.vicmarcal wrote:As far as I know we have an Offiicial Facebook page...

Hopefully the new group will be joined by everyone and we'll be able to make even more changes to the project.

How about we just revive the old one if there already is an official Facebook page? Everyone should join the official one and then invite their friends.
Today entirely the maniac there is no excuse with the article. Get free BeOS, DOS, OS/2, and Windows games at RGB Classic Games.
Re: ReactOS Facebook Group Page
Yup, that was my implicit suggestion. Also there are good news and nice PR movements that were discussed in the meeting. Keep an eye in the Mailing List or in the Official Meeting thread to discover more about these mini-movementsDOSGuy wrote:How about we just revive the old one if there already is an official Facebook page? Re: ReactOS Facebook Group Page
The problem with most of the Facebook pages were that there were just too many of them (as seen in the 2nd post), so you can't tell which one is the official one.
In any case, the intention of what I propose is to offer the broad community to become active not only on the forums, but also on Facebook and the wider Internet medium. All I want is to be able to keep people up-to-date via the Facebook, even if they don't visit the project's homepage regularly.
In any case, a PR team would be a great idea. I would gladly help if the project requires any assistance...
And again, please feel free to join the group and become a part of what's going to be the "next big thing" for the project.

I'm pointing this out not trying to offend you or anything. But my point is you are a 1-10 post user which means nobody offically knows who you are. Which if done by less than serious persons regarding starting an unofficial Facebook page. The owner of that page can when there is over 1000 members change the message of that page into a Goatse fanpage or whatever. (That's what I would do if I was a prankster.)ArmyMan007 wrote:Hey Witch,

Again not trying to offend you but not doing it through official means would in my eyes be considered a security risk to ReactOS' public image.

First off, none taken... that's the whole point of posting such matters on these forums.Witch wrote:I'm pointing this out not trying to offend you or anything. I understand your point of view on this matter, but I'm looking at this from a different point of view: the fact that I haven't had any posts on the forums don't necessarily mean anything regarding my affection to this project. Quite the contrary: there isn't a single day that I don't visit the projects' site or forums (unless of course there is a holiday or something of that sort ). Also, try to understand that the PR of this project isn't very high, so as a wanna-be PR person (more of a politician really, but you got to start somewhere ) I'm trying to revive the internet medium so everyone can take interest in the project. A great example is the Wikipedia page in Hebrew that I have re-written from scratch, and lots of people asked me about the project because of this small yet significant change.
We have to start somewhere, why not there?

Re: ReactOS Facebook Group Page
I've held my tongue throughout this thread, but Witch has finally said what I wanted to say. How can a person who is not a dev or admin or moderator, nor any other person authorized to speak on behalf of the ReactOS project, create an "official" Facebook page for the project? As the sole admin, you would have total control over what posts survive, and your posts would come from ReactOS, as though you spoke for the project.
I applaud anyone who wants to help ReactOS on the PR front, so please feel free to join the official ReactOS Facebook page and invite everyone you know to join and learn about the project. Write about ReactOS on your website/blog/Twitter feed. Post videos of ReactOS' progress on YouTube. Go skydiving with a ReactOS parachute, or make a 10 foot model of the ReactOS logo out of Lego or beer cans or AOL CD-ROMs. Volunteer to be an administrator of the official ReactOS Facebook page, if that's where your passion lies. But I'm afraid you simply can't create a new Facebook group and ask everyone to consider it official. It has to be authorized by the ReactOS team.
