Installing ReactOS on real Hardware

Post by Heinz »

Hello !
I just tried to install Reactos 0.3 SVN on my Computer (Athlon 2000XP, 512 MB Ram, Board K7S5A)
The setup program stops with the following message:
AllocConsole() failed (Status = 0xC0000001)

I also tried the 0.2.7 Live CD.
It boots to the Desktop, but then the system freeze.
That means it doesnt respond to mouse movement or any keyboard input.
Has anyone an idea ?

I assume your using PS2 mouse / keyboard

Sounds like your one of the sufferers for the dreaded AllocConsole bug in our i8042prt driver.

0.2.7 won't work as this has that bug.

It should be fixed in 0.2.8-RC2. Get it from here http://sourceforge.net/projects/reactos

Please try it out and report back

I just tried the 0.28. RC2.
It's the same error message.

I also tried an older Live CD. This also doesnt work, but I am sure it worked fine before some month.
All I have changed since then is that I made a BIOS Update for Overclocking. I don't use the Overclocking Features and I haven't noticed any problems with the new BIOS, on WindowsXP and Mandrake Linux.
Would it make a difference I use USB mouse and Keyboard ?

USB is currently dissabled.

It would be appricieted if you could come onto IRC to go through your problem. The guy who has been dealing with this bug is called GvG.

Yes, that makes a big difference... USB mouse and keyboard are not fully supported yet.

I am using PS2 Mouse and Keyboard. I never used IRC. I am using Mozilla. Is it possible to use the Mozilla IRC chat program ?

yes.

connect to one of the freenode servers:

/server irc.eu.freenode.net

change your nick

/nick <your nick>

then connect our channel

/join #reactos

or you can try it straight from your browser. I think it's :

irc://irc.eu.freenode.net/reactos

Mouse doesn't work for me either

Post by jasorn »

I have many ps2 and serial mice. I have to machines here that i've been able to install reactos. But in the .27 live cd, .28 install cd, and reactOS-trunk-r18903.iso , there is no line in the setup for mouse. i've tried about 10 different mice on both machines and the mouse doesn't show up in the setup process. there is a line for Computer, Display, Keyboard, and Keyboard Layout. But no mouse. Should there be?

At any rate, none of my ps2 or serial mice work :(
