Quicklaunch bar plans?

Post by Pi_User5 »

I was wondering if there was any plans for implementing a quick launch bar in the explorer. I know explorer_old had one but I have not heard any plans about one in the explorer.

If I understood correctly this depends on custom toolbars, which are missing in our shell. iirc something important was missing in the rebar control to implement them.

I hope the missing thing can be found and added in sometime soon.

I think the plan was not to include this but the user could install a 3rd party software.

If I understand correctly, the statement in the mentioned jira ticket is not to generally let the user install a third party tool, but just that it should not be hardcoded into explorer. This doesn't mean that
there is no chance that the system comes with support for virtual desktops.

But it was present in the previous implementation. Just reimplement it in a new Explorer. They should be available as optional toolbars. Show desktop button too. Do we have an entry on Jira for it?

Yes, I know the old explorer had that feature and it would be nice if somewhere in the future ReactOS gets it again (although personally I don't care that much since I don't use virtual desktops that much).
My point was that imho the discussion in the linked ticked doesn't say explicitly that the user has to use third party software for that. It just says that the code of an already existing project could be taken
and transformed into a proper shell extension, which could be included with the system instead of hardcoding it into the explorer as it was with the old one.

OK, that's great. And towards the Quicklaunch bar, I found some opensource software to support Taskbar Jump Lists – it's called SBar. It will be cool if it will be intergarated into the new ROS Explorer. We'll have Windows 7 taskbar functionality – Jumplists, Window thumbnails and more. ;)
Its website – https://sbar.codeplex.com/
