Hardware Profile Icon

Post by Pi_User5 »

I was working on the Hardware page of sysdm.cpl and I created the icon for Hardware profiles by combining the network adapter icon and the user icon from the Tango set. Is there anything I should do different such as moving the user to the left or leave it be? If you think I should change the other two icons, post what they should be and where you found them (preferably Tango).

The patch/improvements should be hitting JIRA soon but I want to know if the icons are ok.

Why put the people into the icon? are you mixing the word profile with people? People have profiles, buildings have profiles, cars have profiles. I have no suggestion for a Hardware Profile icon, but the Hardware Wizard icon could have a wizard on it. XP's Device manager icon is 3 different pieces of hardware, but that is not to be copied, but something similar could be made. But what are these icons for? decoration!, because there are words that do the describing.

Keep up the good work, young man (how old are you? >5 but <15?) and don't be discouraged by my comments.
Please keep the Windows classic 9x/2000 look and feel.
The layman's guides - debugging - bug reporting - compiling - ISO remaster.
They may help you with a problem, so do have a look at them.

The Hardware Profile icon in Microsoft Windows XP resembles a brick-like laptop in a docking station.

I used the icon from here: http://findicons.com/icon/208721/wizard#
It does not have a license though. I might put a license file in the resource folder with all the relevant info.

I might attempt to make a real device manager icon.

Device Manager is cool! Hardware wizard, not so much. Could you try to combine Tango's "circuit board" and "lightbulb" icons? Or alternatively instead of lightbulb the "cd disc" icon? Not really into the wizard hat.

As for hardware profiles, the user icon there kind of makes sense. Another combination would be either keeping the "circuit board" and putting a "battery" icon in the corner, or taking the "this computer" icon and putting a "battery" in the corner. I don't know, can't try doing an icon myself now.

That sounds cool. I'm not at my computer now with my icon stuff but I will do later ASAP.
