I made a wallpaper in three different aspect ratios:

The problem with adding more graphics to the repository is that Git is really not the right place for it. There really should be some sort of online gallery for things like wallpapers that doesn't increase the size of everybody's git clone.

I tested this on all color modes. Not bad, even on 256 color.

More wallpapers and we can start to add MS' way of random wallpapers to ROS ^^ We would just need a way to host em all.

The wallpaper indeed looks very neat and nice. Good job.

A suggestion would be to have a separate git repo for (potentially large) artwork, like github.com/reactos/artwork or whatever. So that ppl who want extra stuff can separately download this git repo, while ppl wanting only the source will download instead reactos/reactos.

How about nightly builds don't have the wallpapers but the main build does?

Wallpapers are included in a separate module which is not used in nightly builds.

Wow! I just decided to check this thread, and I'd just like to thank everyone! I didn't think it was really that great.

The only thing that might be a bit concerning is that the png files have 16-bit colour channels. If it's needed, I will convert them to 8-bit.
(I tried the wallpaper on ReactOS, and the 16-bit version looks completely wrong. I assume it's not supported yet. However, the 8-bit version worked perfectly! Maybe that's been fixed since 0.4.9, I wouldn't know.)

Why not just use 24-bit color bitmaps? We're in 21st century
