Wallpaper

Post by Angelus »

This is my little contribution to ReactOS  : an abstract wallpaper using some colour tones from official ROS logo
(oh my God!, yet another wallpaper-guy)

This is a 1024x768 resolution jpeg, but i'll build other sizes on demand. I hope you'll enjoy it.

Comments, suggestions or critics are wellcome. Greetings.

That looks quite nice! The JPEG-quality is a bit low though, there's banding in the gradients now...
It compiles, let's ship it!

Thanks mf!

I've uploaded this lossy quality jpeg because i'm in dial-up connection. But of course I'll upload better quality versions if there're no improvements to do.

I like the wallpaper too!

Maybe mf could advise something to make it even better.. Like that ReactOS text on the background, I think the font doesn't really fit... But that's purely IMO.

Well, it's not "our" font (AvantGarde Black BT) of course. But that doesn't necessarily have to be a bad thing. I think it's fresh. The only advice I would have is to use a higher quality logo, it looks a bit blurry to me.

It seems the font is not in line with the style of ReactOS logo...

Thank you for your comments and suggestiongs, mates.

I could make a version with the Reactos font but... i haven't installed AvantGarde Black BT and I didn't found it googling. Does anyone have this one? If so, could you upload it? Thanx in advance.

Ok. I've found a ReactOS-logo-like font, so this is the new design:

This is better but I suggest to reduce the intervals between the letters and make them larger. In general I suggest to take the official reactos logo and place it in the wallpaper. I also suggest slighly change the pallette to increase green tones at expence of blue.

Looke here: http://svn.reactos.org/media/reactos_0. ... _cover.png
This is official Reactos CD cover.

The font does not have to be the same as the ReactOS font. It's not our objective to enforce total uniformity with all things ROS. If it looks good the way it was, there's no reason to dismiss it just because it uses a different font or style.

Another release (now the wallpaper reaches beta status) :

Thanks Sand for your comments. I liked this color combination but of course I'll make an alternative greenish one.

Hey... I got an idea! Since you have dial-up, why not make a lossless PNG file and compress it in a zip file before you upload it?

I agree - PNG would be the better format to have for this, and in this case the PNG would probably be no more than 50% larger.
But don't bother zipping it - in general, zipping has very little effect on compressed images.

I like the wallpaper, btw ;)
