Interesting article about icon design

Post by Angelus »

I've just found this nice article about 10 of the most common mistakes in OS icon design:

http://www.turbomilk.com/truestories/co ... on-design/

So I post the link here just in case if it is useful for ROS icon designers ;)

Intresting Article but it borders the creativität, stipulates what to do or to leave. Everyone has a different eye, each has different feelings. By requiring, or at least says, that this or that is a mistake, then set limits you simply should not put in the computer. Because via computer, everything is possible, and should remain so, which one might see the so-or the other way thus yields a variety. This should always happen in the net. Creativity !

If everyone held themselves to these rules operating systems would generally be a lot more comfortable to use! :) Normally I'm sceptical about articles like these but this one is actually quite solid. Good stuff!
It compiles, let's ship it!

I`d say, we should then sticky it or copy somewhere for future use.

not too much I can disagree with their, although I can't say all my icons follow all the rules, in fact I have made an icon at some stage for mail and used a post box!

I had previously seen http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms997636.aspx but it is more how to make icons looklike thy belong in windowsXP rather than general good icon making
