NuoveXT icon set

Post by Silver Sonic »

hi,

I just stumbled upon the NuoveXT icon set again and thought it would make a great one for ReactOS since ROS will support icon transparency sometime in the future.
NuveXT fits because:
  • It actually resembles a modern windows like icon theme
  • isn't overused as Tango
  • looks pleasant
  • is up to date
  • and as far I know is released under a free license

I'd have to agree. Tango isn't exactly an eyesore but it does look sort of boring.

Hy Sonic,

nice, but i think we mus what to be programming the new Shell-interface/GUI
it's named Explorer-new or Explorer² if the Direct-layer ad OpenGL-layer finish
to use ..how ever, you Icon-theme be very nice and whant be stay for an
Modern and nice Gui - Interface like i mean.
I would be delighted to see this icon-theme used as default theme.
And further, I would be delighted if we are have in Exolorer ² a easy to use
icon-theme-engine would be have.
Your Icontheme fits really nicely on the background of ReactOS.
( see the "World/Reaction-Icon for Browsing *s*)
But once, can you make the folder-icons more Win32 like, not by side ,
more to be stay upside like Win ...

I do like that more than Tango. The tango pallette in my eyes isn't very pleasant at all. I think using this icon set will bring more people to look at ReactOS because it would have a much cleaner, more modern look to it.

One of the biggest complaints about ReactOS is it's appearance. Something like this might satisfy these complaints for the time being until msstyles compatability is implemented.

And that's really the biggest problem with it. ROS should go for its own look instead of dickriding other systems (Almost all of these are basically Vista or OS X icons with some slight retouches), but that's just me...

Ultimately I think we should design a unique icon set for ROS. But if I had to pick one, I really couldn't choose a better one than this. Nice and neutral on style, and much better than Tango (although Tango is basically the Human Theme of Icon sets...)

Themes. They will make everyone happy.

Until they realise that their own preferred theme is NOT THE DEFAULT ZOMG.

Perhaps ReactOS could introduce a program that allows you to "patch" the shell32.dll icons that would also be compatible with Windows system. Just a .EXE that runs on startup and overrides the standard shell32 icons with some in a .ICONS file or something, sort of similar to the windows native .THEME files....

Arrrgh!!
Did you ever hear about things like system safety? A program running in a normal user account should NEVER be able to overwrite parts of such important system components. Neither on HDD nor in RAM!

Back to topic: Is there any reason to clone the icon set of windows vista? I like the XP icons more. And as long as the user interface does not support themes (comctl32.dll version 6 etc.) the current (tango) icon set fits best anyway. (Just my opinion)

Defaults in appearance are important, since they give the very first impression of the system as a whole. First impressions last forever. Home desktop users are going to be less willing to look into ROS if they see it in screenshots and barf. Apple understands this. When users see Macs in the Apple Store, they say "Oooh, shiny!" and this is what attracts them. For the average user, things like security and robustness, if it impresses them at all, will be secondary.

(Of course, this leaves out things like server environments and corporate desktops where it doesn't really matter, but last I checked ROS wasn't trying to be like OpenBSD)

Because of this, you can't really use a theme system as an excuse for crappy defaults. It's similar to Debian users who say "Apt" whenever you complain how unusable the default packages are.

I agree with it. It should not be very difficult to adopt other icon set. The current design, by a Thai translator expression, "looks like a sheep". :)

Bricopacks too, but:
Here is the list of compatible systems :
- Windows XP
- Windows XP SP1
- Windows XP SP2
- Windows Server 2003
- Windows XP Media Center (SP1, SP2 or without SP)
- Windows XP Tablet Edition
Be careful, this pack isnt compatible with 64 bit versions (x64) of Windows XP
...a "port" would be great, IMHO !

Hy,

easy to say, it is a must be, to have an easy folder/icon-theme possibility.
my tip, make an zipfs use a zipfile with an theme-folder inside the zip to
use them as icon-theme libary by selecting in the desk.cpl as "master/System-Icon-theme"
and in them zipfile can be a 2nd folder who have pictures to pattern the Shell
like an leopard or panter or as an ag-metall or alluminium-pattern ,
have inside on the next folder/ 3rd an color.xml and or an lookandfeel.reg
who tell the Shell/Gui's to have an look and feel with :

%themezip%/icons ; %themezip%/groundpattern ; %themezip%/wallpaper ; %themezip%/regfile/ ; %themezip%/inf ; %themezip%/exec ; %themezip%/dll ; %themezip%/msthemes ...

mayby

%userdir%/themes/woodgreen.zip.rostheme=%themezip%
%themeiconrecource% = %themezip%/icons
%themewallpaperrecource% = %themezip%/wallpaper
...etc...

to enable or disable per checkboxes the using/scanning of the folders of the zip
to enabling partical to use of some folders who only need/whant to use own wallpaper
or other one and to enabling to creation an own theme-zipfile to sleecting other foldersn
and other pictures as iconthemes and wallapers, dll-addons and regthemes-changes
like color's , pictures and so on..
And at last to save it in an zip-container as full-theme with dll-addons and regchanges and others..
for upload to get others .. ...and so on, to make a shell/Gui totaly possibility to customation and
add some addons in the theme.zip.rostheme for some usabilitycustomizon and make a
zipcontainer to easyest way to customing the Explorer²(-new) Interface for the user
(and not for the Distriebutor*s*) and make a totaly possiblity to share the Reactos-themes
who had any user made by self, easystly (or so *s*) finish to uploading as one file, zip-file
for the rest of the world
the icon-lib using like in KDE,:

programname.*=%themeiconrecource%/name.png/bmp/jpg/all other
dllname.*=%themeiconrecource%/name.png/bmp/jpg/all other
batchname.*=%themeiconrecource%/name.png/bmp/jpg/all other
exename.*=%themeiconrecource%/name.png/bmp/jpg/all other
comname.*=%themeiconrecource%/name.png/bmp/jpg/all other
nfoname.*=%themeiconrecource%/name.png/bmp/jpg/all other
blabla.* =%themeiconrecource%/name.png/bmp/jpg/all other
*.nfo =%themeiconrecource%/name.png/bmp/jpg/all other
*.readme =%themeiconrecource%/name.png/bmp/jpg/all other
*.txt =%themeiconrecource%/name.png/bmp/jpg/all other
name.extension=%themeiconrecource%/name.png/bmp/jpg/all other
*.* = %themeiconrecource%/questionmark.png/bmp/jpg/all other / or use it from the file or call te User to take an new Icon config with checkbox.

= %themezip%/%themezip%/theme.ini //only txt in ascii for totaly comptatibility around of the world
(sorry for asian-lang but we need an standart who understand any aound the word..)

only so an idea for the programmers ;)

best Regards
Blacky
