What is actually (2017) the state of the art of PCMCIA drivers?

My Dvd-rom is on a PCMCIA driver, so since at the installation step, I need a working PCMCIA driver. (At the moment when the OS takes the place of the Bios)

I have no idea what the state of the PCMCIA driver is. Feel free to start a new topic if you'd like to (but IMO it doesn't matter - this was originally 1 post on the same topic so we're not exactly burying anything).

Which build of ROS are you trying out? (If you do start a new thread, answer my question there ;) )
