Hello all, I have been using ReactOS for the past few years and finally decided to try to install it on bare metal! However, things didn't go so well...
I was using r71208 (LiveCD). I was also using a bootable flash drive made in Rufus.
It boots, and loads the boot driver. And then, in the debug log, it simply stops while loading swenum.sys. Everything up till that point was completely fine.
PC Hardware:
AMD FX 6300 Black Edition
EVGA 2GB Nvidia GTX 960 (note: also tried using my onboard GPU, same result)
8GB DDR3 RAM
1TB WD SATA HDD (dual-booting with Windows 10. Could SATA be the problem?)
CD/DVD drive
Sandisk Cruzer 2GB DDR2 flash drive, the bootable media.

Re: Swenum.sys on bare metal
The PC is too new for ReactOS. So it's hangs.

Re: Swenum.sys on bare metal
Theres no too new. THis is a bug which should be reported
ReactOS is still in alpha stage, meaning it is not feature-complete and is recommended only for evaluation and testing purposes.

Re: Swenum.sys on bare metal
Please identify the motherboard. Also, if the manufacturer has a web page describing the board then please provide that too.
Re: Swenum.sys on bare metal
I´ve exactly the same problem on instant office desktop HP Compaq DC7800 Small Forum Factor (with upgraded BIOS).

Similar problem on an Acer Aspire S733-6607
Re: Swenum.sys on bare metal
These symptoms resemble the bug CORE-12899. I see it also on my HP Pavilion 7965 desktop PC that I use for testing ReactOS. If anybody has successfully installed ReactOS release 0.4.5 without using a virtual machine (VM), please let us know the hardware you used.
UPDATE (2017-06-22): I was able to successfully install ReactOS nightly build (trunk build) Revision 75167. I used bootcd-75167-dbg.7z. I invite others who have seen this bug to try r75167 on their hardware. Let us know your results. Perhaps this bug has been fixed.
UPDATE (2017-06-23): Bug CORE-12899 was fixed in revision 74729.
