ReactOS on an old netbook.

Post by Niccirno »

Hi, I'm new here and I'm not a programmer or big expert with computers. Found ReactOS a few years back or so, can't remember how, but always interested to try it out.

Is it possible to install it on a machine with following specs and have it running reasonably:

* Mobile Intel 945GM chipset family
* Intel ICH7M/MDH SATA controller
* Intel Atom N270 @ 1.6ghz - hyperthreaded singlecore
* 2GB DDR2 SDRAM @ 667mhz
* Intel GMA950 @ 128mb (or something?) - supports DX9c and OGL1.4
* IDT audio
* Realtek USB 2.0 CRW
* Atheros AR9285/5B95 WLAN
* Synaptics touchpad

Any help would be appreciated. I'm mainly just curious, I'm actually probably going to dual boot XP and Q4OS on further research but I support all the way this project :)

It's always hard to say when it's a machine that's never been tested before. As I advise anyone asking a similar question - give it a shot and let us know how it goes!

The two biggest issues I can foresee are: your wireless isn't likely to work, and if your touchpad is connected internally via USB, it may not work either.

EDIT: If you can get ROS running, you may be in luck, there's an XP driver for that wireless chip: http://www.atherosdrivers.com/atheros-w ... 32bit.html
