Cannot boot after installation of 0.4.11

Post by stephanos »

Summary: I have installed but when I reboot it stalls.

The Computer: Dell Inspiron N5030 laptop, Intel pentium ?, 8GB RAM, 500ish GB SATA HDD, USB mouse,
Used the boot CD version 0.4.11

Installation went OK, no known error messages.
Took DVD out and rebooted
a) Got to menu and allowed "ReactOS" default to be chosen without user selection
Splash screen with progress bar
Paused at about ¾ of progress bar

b) Rebooted and chose (Screen) option
black screen, lots of words
Message: “ *** Assertion failed: FDODeviceExtension→DeviceRelations→Count > 0
*** Source File: ../ ../drivers/hid/hidclass/fdo.c, line 610”
However, no keyboard input is possible so I was not able to enter “bt”.

c) Rebooted and chose (Screen) option again
black screen, lots of words
Message: “ *** Assertion failed: False
*** Source File: ../ ../drivers/hid/hidclass/hidclass .c, line 954”
However, no keyboard input is possible so I was not able to enter “bt”.

d) Rebooted and chose (log file) option
black screen, lots of words
Paused at: “multi (0) disk (0) rdisk (0) partition (1) \ReactOS\System32\Drivers\VBE.SYS”

Turned computer off

Well I hope that was informative. What do I do now?

1) Use a Linux livecd, like Puppy Linus and look in C:\reactos\ for a debug log.

1a) If you find a debug log, then consider creating a Jira Issue, but first check in Jira to see if the problem has already been reported.

2) Try one of the latest builds and see how far you get with that.
Please keep the Windows classic 9x/2000 look and feel.
The layman's guides - debugging - bug reporting - compiling - ISO remaster.
They may help you with a problem, so do have a look at them.
