Problem with Live-CD nightly builds

Post by eXile »

Hi,

I just downloaded a Live-CD of ReactOS (livecd-27239-rel.7z), but before boot it crashes and prints: "Could not open Codepage registry key". I tried it on two different systems (Intel Pentium 3 500 MHz CPU, 128 MB RAM, nVidia TNT2 GPU and AMD Athlon 2200 MHz CPU, 512 MB DDR-RAM, Radeon 9600 Pro GPU), and get the same error.

Are there any recent nightly builds of ReactOS that are proven to work as Live-CDs, except the major releases?

Greetings,
eXile.

livcd itself works... but there are some issues with compiling on 64bit systems so the ISOs from buildbot are broken. if you need livecd you will have to build your own or you can ask me and I will compile one for you. the other thing is wheter it will work on your PC.

LiveCD`s may have issues with stability. Better to try a bootcd with Ros Testing Environment, or Vmware.

Hi,

I tried the livecd-26979-dbg on my second computer (see first post). It still doesn't boot:

Code: Select all

(lib/cmlib/hiveinit.c:31)
Press any key
Verify Hive Header failed:

Press any key
(lib/cmlib/hiveinit.c:32)
Press any key
Signature: 0x66676572 and not 0x66676572, Major: 0x0 and not 0x1

Press any key
(lib/cmlib/hiveinit.c:34)
Press any key
    Minor: 0x0 is not >= 0x3, Type: 0x0 and not 0x0

Press any key
(lib/cmlib/hiveinit.c:34)
Press any key
Format: 0x0 and not 0x1, Cluster 0x0 and not 1

Press any key
(lib/cmlib/hiveinit.c:38)
Press any key
Sequence: 0x0 and not 0x2, Checksum 0x66677580 and not 0x0

Press any key
Couldn't open CodePage registry key
Press any Key
... and repeating this all the time.

I'll try the Boot-CDs with VMware next.

Hi,

OK ... finally I got ReactOS up and running in VMware, version bootcd-27245-dbg. Apart from the fact, that I cannot change the display resolution and the ntoskrnl caused some BSOD, I really like it. But I cannot think of any way to get new programs, i.e. Firefox, into my VM. Can anybody help?

For Firefox, there should be a "Download Firefox" option in your start menu.

For others, just like Windows.

Nah, IIRC, svn builds don't have 'download firefox' in the startmenu. Here is a link where you can find out how to add programs in your virtual machine:

Having that message as soon I start my LiveCD

Post by paul »

I am getting that message too, when starting the Live CD image I just compiled myself. I get the error both on real hardware and under qemu.

The trunk ReactOS revision I use is 27593.
That was my first try at booting my own LiveCD.

Added note: Just tried with SVN build:
qemu -cdrom livecd-27593-rel.iso -boot cdrom

Same result:
Couldn't open Codepage registry key
Press any key
Couldn't open Codepage registry key

I'll try to figure out the exact revision by downloading previous build.

Added added note:
same thing with:
qemu -cdrom livecd-27435-rel.iso -boot cdrom

Added**3 note: The code showing this is from:
static BOOLEAN FrLdrLoadNlsFiles(PCHAR szSystemRoot, PCHAR szErrorOut)
in:
paul@paul-desktop:~/ros-src/reactos$ grep -n -r --include *.c "CodePage registry key" .
./boot/freeldr/freeldr/windows/wlregistry.c:186: //strcpy(szErrorOut, "Couldn't open CodePage registry key");
./boot/freeldr/freeldr/reactos/reactos.c:241: strcpy(szErrorOut, "Couldn't open CodePage registry key");

Added**4 note:
This is bug #2290:

I get my livecd at www.chip.de and tryed to boot at a virtual machine from innotek.

Will the livecd delete my real hardware when I burn the Image on a real cd and try it out??

Sorry for my english, I'm a German.
