Hi;
I have been watching and trying to use ROS for many years now.
I always seem to have problems getting it running at 100%
The Idea I was thinking about was a Dedicated Server for Drivers alone....
The nice thing about ROS is that it is small and not as blow up as any of the win OS's 9x, NT and so on...
But every time I install ROS I have problems with it so here is what I am pondering.
What about a ROS release that is just a bit bigger with Generic Drivers so that everyone can get online with any Network Card
and get onto a server containing all and any drivers that will work in the long run.
That way the OS install could still be small but once installed any devices could easily be installed by going online, and would save time for the user to going through and trying to find all the drivers necessary before they could actually use the OS.
Hopefully I don't sound like a tool but seems like a good idea.

The thing is, that the generic drivers don't work on each hardware so far and you are not able to install any driver which isn't build for NT4. As long that is not given, no one needs such a "driver server". The next problem is that a lot of drivers have licences that they are only allowed to be installed on a Microsoft Windows OS - ReactOS as project is not allowed to collect all these drivers for a installation on ReactOS. Even though, the manufacturers have a drivers database - why should we copy them? It is hard to find out which hardware really works with the original drivers and as long as ReactOS is not in beta stage, it makes no sense to me. IIRC there was a link in this forum to website, which provides ISO images with drivers for any kind of hardware, maybe someone can remember the url of this website. I think this would help a lot more instead of creating a "driver download server" ...
Re: ReactOS Automatic Updates Idea...
The complexicity of NT architecture makes it quite difficult to separate a limited about of components that could be perfected up to your 100% goal. There are numerous inteconnections, that induce heavy internal dependence amongst parts you wouldn`t think are in any way tied with each other. Thus, its often all or nothing.
