Microsoft .NET Framework

Post by purplewhiteman »

I've deployed ReactOS on a hard drive and gotten a 'Device Installation' screen looking for the ethernet controller. I guess this is why I can't get online.

Another issue I encountered is the following when trying to run software designed for Windows after copying it over from another drive:

.NET Required
This setup requires the .NET Framework v2.0. Please download and install the .NET Framework v2 and run this setup again. Do you want to download the framework now? YES, NO

Of course I chose YES and absolutely nothing happened but again I cannot connect to the internet.

This software has the following specs on the download page:
EZTrader LIVE
System Requirements & Download
Required Item Recommended
Operating System - Windows XP SP2 and up
- Windows 7 supported
- 1 GB RAM and up
Software .NET Framework 2.0 SP1 or higher
Installing .NET Framework

* To manually check it your system has Microsoft.NET Framework
o Select "Start" from your desktop menu, then "Control Panel" and locate "Microsoft .NET Framework" within "Add or Remove Programs".
* Download the Microsoft .NET Framework for 32-bit computers here
* Download the Microsoft .NET Framework for 64-bit computers here

I was advised 'forget it. .Net will never run on ReactOS, no matter how much time and work you invest.
You'll need a proper MS product for this; nothing else will due'.

Is this accurate? Am I wasting my time trying to get this EZTrader to run on ReactOS?

Hello Haos and than you for your interest and your reply. That was said by someone in a reply to a post of mine at reboot.pro. He or she seems otherwise very knowledgeable but of course may not be qualified to render such a judgment on ReactOS.

It seems you strongly disagree with the statement. Might you or someone else reading this be able please to help me with the steps involved in getting my ReactOS installation configured properly?

I guess getting online is first and foremost as I will then need to 'download and install the .NET Framework v2 and run this setup again' but I did a search engine search for 'download ethernet controller for ReactOS' and nothing useful came up.

Can someone please advise as to how I should proceed?

Many thanks.

You can try to install ReactOS in a virtual machine, such as VirtualBox, VMWare, QEMU.

Thanks also for your response Hto but the problem is not installing ReactOS. As I say, it is already active on a hard drive. Unless I am missing something, I don't see how installing ReactOS 'in a virtual machine, such as VirtualBox, VMWare, QEMU' will help matters. Would it be more functional in one of those environments?

As it regards it's still being 'in alpha stage', I'm actually not planning on using ReactOS on an everyday basis either. A Windows Vista crash led me to installing Fedora 14 - a Linux OS which I have deployed on another hard drive and I have been using it for virtually everything else such as web surfing, text documents, etc. I am using it right now as I type this. The problem is this one pesky program - EZTrader - which will not run in Linux. I was hoping to use ReactOS exclusively for the purpose of running EZTrader.

RecatOS works well with virtual network cards, but not with all real cards. .NET 2.0 will fail, probably.

Its hard to maintain app in running stage if its not checked periodically, any bugs reported (and any devs looking into bugzilla for bugs to fix). .NET 1.x was working some time ago, i think .NET 2.0 even installed (not sure about working). As for chances in running .NET package, its possible but requires more work.

What about trying Mono? Iirc Mono was working on ReactOS. Maybe there are some chances of being able to run your App.

Hello danielt998. Yes I've tried. EZTrader will not open in Fedora via the use of Wine even though the loader created a desktop icon for it.

Hello vicmarcal. How would I get Iirc Mono to the ReactOS drive?

Does anyone have a way I can get around the ethernet controller issue to be able to get online?

The simplest way is a virtual machine, which is known to work. Or you can try to use a Windows driver for your controller.

What are you planning to do? Installing an options trading platform on an operating system that publicly admits that it is not meant for day-to-day activities, much less something as important as financial trading, does not sound very prudent. Why are you expressly avoiding a commercially available operating system like Windows? At the very least, it's as reliable an OS you can get for running Windows applications.

Alternatively, given that the programme uses .NET 2.0, what about just installing Mono on your Linux installation and run it from there?

If you are trying in Real Hardware, then use a CD-RW to install .Net in ReactOS
If you are trying in Virtual Machine, then pack the .Net to an ISO and attach it to the Virtual CD drive.

I've already installed Mono in Fedora and I don't know what to do next as it still does not open EZTrader:
