Should I make a Pinball game for ReactOS?
I thought it would be cool to add a Pinball game in reactos, since there is no longer one included in Windows. Man, that game is addictive. Should I make one to be included or not?

I think it would be more useful to fix existing bugs first which doesn't allow to play Microsoft's 3D Pinball "Space Cadet".

Or we can make an updated game similar to it that works.binarymaster wrote: ↑Tue Mar 26, 2019 1:03 amI think it would be more useful to fix existing bugs first which doesn't allow to play Microsoft's 3D Pinball "Space Cadet".

Why "reinvent the weel" ?
It could be more interesting to test existing open source pinball games to ROS, IMHO:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/pinballnext/
...or to port from other platforms:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/pinball/
Last but not least, as always, it would be even better to involve 3rd party authors in order to attract devs to ROS.
Hope that inspires.

Those look cool but a little dated. Also, they are significantly different from the OG game based on the pictures.

Raymond Chen answered the question "Why was Pinball removed from Microsoft Windows Vista (and Microsoft Windows XP Professional x64 Edition)?" in his blog The Old New Thing.

Interesting, couldn't they just run 32-bit programs on 64-bit?middings wrote: ↑Tue Mar 26, 2019 11:44 pm Raymond Chen answered the question "Why was Pinball removed from Microsoft Windows Vista (and Microsoft Windows XP Professional x64 Edition)?" in his blog The Old New Thing.

It's better to solve multiple problems at once than just a single problem.

Re: Should I make a Pinball game for ReactOS?
On Microsoft removing Pinball, a couple of things stand out on that. I don't see why they felt the need to attempt to rewrite it. It was already 32-bit and would run as-is under x64. The other thing is that it sounds like it had sloppy code to begin with. If I were them, I'd have sent the rewrite back to the original author and see what they could do with it, since the original developer likely knows it better than them.
I'd say port one of the existing projects and rework it to look and feel closer to the original to the extent allowed.

Regarding Pinball removal from Windows, please read these two blog posts by Raymond Chen:

Re: Should I make a Pinball game for ReactOS?
They could, but it was a foreign code. There were math errors that did not surface using x32 code but did using amd64 code. It would require a comprehensive rewrite to eliminate all those.
