Mascot for ReactOS
What about a mascot for ReactOS? We already got a logo: The ReactOS atom. But I guess its important to have also a mascot like tux for Linux. In my opinon it must look sweet like these four ones:

What about a tiger? The characteristics of a tiger would fit to a operation system: Fast, smart, clever...
Unfortunately my painting skills are very poor. So I'm not the man for grafical proposals. Maybe one of you is the man for this? Or what are your proposals for a mascot?

this is my first post in the new forum, but I've started a similar same thread about a year ago in the old forum.

Windows is considered by many a strong but dangerous beast with unpredictable traits.ma-games.de wrote:What about a tiger?
What ReactOS devs are doing is taming the beast, so if I were to choose from feline, I'd vote for a cat rather than a tiger.
Tiger is taken by Apple anyway.

We don't want to get sued by Apple, now do we?Tiger is taken by Apple anyway.
BSD daemon is a, well, a Unix daemon. You become a daemon when you fork into background. That's obvious.Elledan wrote:How were those mascots for Linux, *BSD, etc. chosen, anyway?
Linux's Tux was chosen because Linus liked penguins :) There are several articles on the history of Tux in the net, just google.
I somewhat knew about those two already, but the blowfish still mystifies meTonik wrote:BSD daemon is a, well, a Unix daemon. You become a daemon when you fork into background. That's obvious.Elledan wrote:How were those mascots for Linux, *BSD, etc. chosen, anyway?

BTW, my favourite animal is a crow, mostly because they're so incredibly clever.
A four-winged crow, painted in Windows logo colors? :-)Elledan wrote:BTW, my favourite animal is a crow, mostly because they're so incredibly clever.
Personally I don't think you can make a crow look as sexy and affectionable as a fat little pengiun :-)

Alright, how about a dragonfly, then?Tonik wrote:A four-winged crow, painted in Windows logo colors?Elledan wrote:BTW, my favourite animal is a crow, mostly because they're so incredibly clever.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dragonfly
"The dragonfly is an insect belonging to the Order Odonata, Suborder Anisoptera and characterized by large multifaceted eyes, two pairs of strong transparent wings, and an elongated body. Dragonflies typically eat mosquitoes, midges and other small insects like flies, bees, and butterflies."
They also come in a wide variety of colours

Well, having a fat, happy penguin as a mascot doesn't seem to have harmed Linux much, and besides, the mascot doesn't have to be (part of) the logo as well, nor does the mascot necessarily have to be portrayed in a 'cute' fashion if it's incorporated into the logo. Abstract logos get boring after a while.blight wrote:Mascots (Like the Linux Penguin) might leave the impression that a product is more of a toy than a professional application. Thats why it was decided that a technical logo would be better than some animal (IIRC )
Also, since ROS will also be aimed at the unwashed masses, so to speak, it might be a good idea to have a somewhat interesting/cute mascot.
I like duckbills http://web.sau.edu/LeggRichardG/images/ ... atypus.jpg
