"WPM - A Windows Package Manager"

Post by RomanH »

There is someone working on a Debian-like packaging mechanism for MS Windows. Isn't this exactly what the ReactOS software download tool is supposed to accomplish?

Here's a link to more information

Not entirely, MSI doesn't solve dependencies automatically, like apt does. Also there's no 'repo' and no msi-package browser other then google. Apt is one of the reasons I love debian (and ubuntu ofcourse), and something like this for Windows (and long-term spoken ROS) would be nearly too good to be true :)

Should have a look at some of the server tools out there for NT systems. MSI is very powerful. Of course there is no official list, but placing together a list of packages is not hard. And some of Linux's downfalls come from these lists. I would never know which one to use if I had no knowledge with many of the package managers (giving a person with no knowledge 10 options is not good, you need to give them the general best, when that does not fit, then using why you can get another).
