There is someone working on a Debian-like packaging mechanism for MS Windows. Isn't this exactly what the ReactOS software download tool is supposed to accomplish?

Not entirely, MSI doesn't solve dependencies automatically, like apt does. Also there's no 'repo' and no msi-package browser other then google. Apt is one of the reasons I love debian (and ubuntu ofcourse), and something like this for Windows (and long-term spoken ROS) would be nearly too good to be truePhalanx wrote:and msi is for this...RomanH wrote:There is someone working on a Debian-like packaging mechanism for MS Windows. Should have a look at some of the server tools out there for NT systems. MSI is very powerful. Of course there is no official list, but placing together a list of packages is not hard. And some of Linux's downfalls come from these lists. I would never know which one to use if I had no knowledge with many of the package managers (giving a person with no knowledge 10 options is not good, you need to give them the general best, when that does not fit, then using why you can get another).geertvdijk wrote:Not entirely, MSI doesn't solve dependencies automatically, like apt does.
