I have created a LIve CD, but am nervous of running it.
Does it write anything to hard disk when booting?
Particularly does it do anything with the MBR, because I have a boot manager there and do not want it to be modified?
Live CD 0.2.5

Well I tried the live CD.
It started to boot but then told me that I had an invalid partition table, and made some escape suggestions which I forget now, but after a couple of key presses I was booting into Windows.
I don't know if it was objecting to my Win98SE/Linux dual boot arrangement with the bootmanager (GRUB) in the MBR, but anyway, no harm was done and nothing was written to my HD. PC is 4 years old with AMD Duron 600MHz.
Try again next year maybe!
