Which Java Version is already running? Is it the JRE or even JSDK?

We're applying our efforts to make them both running, but for now there are certain problems which prevents JRE from running correctly.

Thanks! And which Version of Java do you want running on ReactOS at the moment? The newest one (Java 5) or one of the erlier releases?

Will be JRE include in core ROS? If it will be so, it will be Sun JRE, IBM JRE, Blackdown JRE or Kaffe (GPL) ?

No. Only if someone creates a distribution that ships with java.

How reliable are the JREs that aren't from sun? Are they running all of the Java programms? Because a JRE like Kaffee which is licensed under the GPL could cause less licencs issues for a ReactOS distribution which is shipped with Java.

Java's Problem

Post by Linuxhippy »

Java#s Problem is, that the only full functional java-implemenattions are absed on sun source code and so if sun decides to do something strange, noone will have luck.

Free JVMs as Kaffe or GCJ do not have all the APIs distributed by SUN and many programs simply do not work on them :-(

I ensure that my programs are compatible to GCJ so I can run them even if no sun-jre is installed.

That screenshot is about a year and a half old. I'm not sure if it still runs or has regressed since then.

Woops, anyway,
let's just hope for a reactos system compatible enough for running Java applications.
Actually if it isn't already it will probably be in the future, right?
Isn't Open Office somehow dependent on Java?

No, unless you use java-applets in your documents.

It doesn't say it needs it to run, and you can say "No Java VM" and it'll install, but with a notice that some (probably minor) functionality will be disabled.

Coming on, coming up, let me help ROS and I'll be able to look @ a life well used.

Kaffe?

Post by avryhof »

Wasn't there something posted awhile back about working with the Kaffe team to do Java support? Or maybe I imagined/saw it on another project's page?
