Will the ReactOS-kernel support Xen?

Post by rowa »

Hello,

Xen make it possible to run more than one kernel at the same time. You can run simultaneously different Linux- or BSD-versions . But Xen needs adapted kernels.

Will the ReactOS-kernel support Xen?

Xen port will be a great addition! I will be able to use linux and ros at same time without the big perforance lost that vmware and qemu have!

I suppose you mean you want to run ReactOS as domain0 or in a driver domain? I don't see any reason why that can't be done, but it's not a priority (for me).

I think he means running a Xen guest OS inside ReactOS, in other words a Xen subsystem?

Actually, I suspect that it means integrating Xen technology into each of ROS' Subsystems (Win32, Linux, OS/2, Java, DOS, or any others that might be considered), so that you can run more than one at once.

Good Old Xen all ways gets people lost.

Domain 0 os can talk directly to Xen and say Xen start this OS now.

Xen does not run inside other OSs all OS running on a Xen system are running inside Xen.

Xen lets mult OS share the same hardware verry effectively. Linux runs inside Xen and can be Domain 0. So you can just swap between OS.

Note Xen compad OS systems can interface with all other running Xen compad OS systems running on the same machine.

So a linux subsystem starts to loss importants as long as Reactos does X11 or something to transfer the interface to Reactos.

Also as long as the domain O does not crash OSs can be reset without reseting the complet system.

Note doing dos inside Xen might to be able to be done. Due to Xen setup.

has any of you seen such a windows xp and linux under xen running together?

i would love to see that, but it is not spread, and it is not allowed to download it because of licensing problems. well, i wouldnt care licensing especially, but you cant force things :D

maybe somebody around here saw windows xp in xen running next to linux and can talk about it...

I use xen from time to time to run 2 or more linuxs together. Suse, Fedora Core 3, Mandrake 10.1 and a debian base.

This is for developer handy but not that uses full for most ie will the program build under the most common distros with out problem.

Reactos running under Xen would be help full just a little. No Qemu running heck does that eat processor.
