Soon: Develop ReactOS in ReactOS
Hi, due to all recent bug-fixes it starts to get close to be possible to develop ReactOS in ReactOS.
The RosBE can be made to work in ReactOS with some simple tricks. Soon we hope we don't have to add them either, but there is at least two bugs waiting, 4308 and 4323. To be able to get RosBE to work you'll need to follow these simple steps.
1) Download RosBE 1.4 from the wiki. Install it.
2) Get msvcp60.dll from somewhere (google) and put it in the RosBE\i386\bin and in the RosBE\Tools folders.
3) Edit RosBE.cmd and insert a row with "set ROS_RBUILDFLAGS=-hd" directly after the row "@echo off" (this get's around bug 4308 but slows things down).
4) I the Icon "target box parser" is buggy and makes it not to work, after starting it type "c:\program files\rosbe\rosbe" to start RosBE.
5) Now download ReactOS Source Code by "ssvn create" this takes a while and some space.
6) Now "make bootcd" and you are on your way to start bug-checking RosBE Make sure you make a debug.txt from ReactOS so the devs can debug the results.
Now some screenshots:

The MS Visual Studio is also possible to install and somewhat run according to encoded.

Fantastic progress, I'm testing it right now.
Thank you for all your help&coding, keep up the good work!

What I like most here are all the nice screenshots at
http://encoded.no-ip.org/ros/screenshots/
For example this show, that Java works on ROS.
The other screenshots are also very new. So since this post, that ROS can be developed in ROS, I looked from time to time, if there existing new screenshots in that folder.
Greatings

Re: Soon: Develop ReactOS in ReactOS
So we're almost back to 2004 compatibility when we used to regularly build ros on ros
Brilliant

Any potential benefit from being able to do that?

Re: Soon: Develop ReactOS in ReactOS
This has nothing to do with getting back to 6 years old states. The problems were, that I use many different commands in the RosBE Scripts and most were not or just wrong implemented. Now it gets slowly to a working state, because the console implementation is gettin more advanced.Ged wrote:So we're almost back to 2004 compatibility when we used to regularly build ros on ros

ReactOS is still in alpha stage, meaning it is not feature-complete and is recommended only for evaluation and testing purposes.

Braggin' rights. It looks good when the system becomes mature enough to be self-hostable.SuperDog wrote:Any potential benefit from being able to do that?

It doesn't matter what we hindrances there are, it still stands that what we used to do 6 years ago is finally becoming possible again.EmuandCo wrote:This has nothing to do with getting back to 6 years old states. Maybe running Firefox like we used to do 6 years ago is the next step?
Woo hoo.
Re: Soon: Develop ReactOS in ReactOS
You mean when something like v0.8 was around? I'd rather not touch it, looks dead
Re: Soon: Develop ReactOS in ReactOS
I doubt you used to run rosbe 1.5.x 6 years ago and I'm pretty sure you didn't use to run firefox 3. I'd also say ff 1 always ran (more or less) during the last 6 years. Why such pesimism?Ged wrote: It doesn't matter what we hindrances there are, it still stands that what we used to do 6 years ago is finally becoming possible again.

Re: Soon: Develop ReactOS in ReactOS
Well you are right Ged, it is sad it has taken such long time to get a stable system, however now it is not by a lot of hacks but a genuine compatibility (in many places anyway). And it is exellent that ReactOS moves forward even if it is in a slow pace.Ged wrote:It doesn't matter what we hindrances there are, it still stands that what we used to do 6 years ago is finally becoming possible again.EmuandCo wrote:This has nothing to do with getting back to 6 years old states. Ged, thank you for the encouragement and please do some dev-work if you have some time to spare.

Ged, if you need extra-motivation, watch this video:

I think this is the first time i see a complex app working such nice in ReactOS.
In the other hand I disagree with your current point of view about ReactOS.
First, We are hitting bugs hidden by big old hacks.Other bugs were waiting ambushed to jump asap. Last month our Devs killed more than 30 bugs plus more than 10 regression using non-hackfixing methods.
And now,my area: Testing area.
Spanish and English people love bets, so let´s bet.
6 years ago?Ok. Better, let´s test 0.3.0 ( released on August 27, 2006.)(less than 6 years ago)(just 4)
And now...the bet:
It will be funny

And now...the bet:
Agree??are you prepared to lose the bet?? :3I bet that you will be able to run in 0.3.0 LESS than 20% of current GoldenApps.Virtualizer: VirtualBox.
The reward: A picture dressed as Woman with red lips and a paper saying: ReactOS rocks!!
You win: If you are able to run more than 20% of current GoldenApps in ReactOS 0.3.0
You lose : If you are not able to run more than 20% of current GoldenApps in ReactOS 0.3.0.
You lose#2: If you dont accept this bet.
It will be funny
