That still means it does not need to be "ported". Simple, windows apps are native ReactOS apps. How would you be porting windows to windows?

Open Source Apps with an Open Source OS!

Post by tomleem »

I was not thinking that at first but that is a good idea; including open source (win) apps with the ReactOS cd. One could have links to other open source programs that could (potentially) be used with ROS(?).

yes, but it seems you don't understand the main reason. no need to port anything. when ROS gets compatible to win32 at a higher level, most windows applications and drivers will work, completely without source. just binary/compiled/whatever you want to call it.

from 'port' to 'including open source software with ROS cd'

Post by tomleem »

I realize the 'no need to port' line but my idea changed from that to including other opern source programs with the ROS cd in a 'apps' directory (getting more than just the os). The 'apps' could be an open source game lke of TRON, or an open source version of MS Office like Open Office, etc.

Hmm..

Nearly everybody wants anything included, I think this is just nonsence.

You end up with tons of software many people don't need and since ReactOS should be binary compaible anyway, why not just download the parts you really need instead of tons of useless stuff?

just my 5 cents...

Maybe put start menu links to software like OpenOffice, and when suer chooses them for the first time, ask if they want to install it, if they do, download and install it with package manger, if not, ask if they want the link removed.
