UI team
I know there was a new "UI team" that was formed some time ago, and that mf was elected as ui team coordinator... There were also some discussion on the forum about UI.
But what happened since that?
There were some discussion in the website mailing list, but then in the last times there were not much activity...
Does the UI team is making some work currently?
BTW I don't want to look bad (sorry for my poor english), I said this because I'm very interested in this project, and I wanted to know what you've done lately and what you plan to do later.
Thanks!

cool, that's a nice sidebar.
What are your plans for the future work?
Maybe I could help you, I've done some icons in the past
http://reactosde.re.funpic.de/mediadeta ... ns&mdnr=52
But I don't have very much ideas about what to do...
Mf, as a UI coordinator, could you make me some suggestions?

Actually, I spent about 5 minutes on it.counting_pine wrote:Nice sidebar, hope you didn't spend over a month on it, though...
More start menu icons. Those are the ones you see first, so are highest in the priority list.cmoibenlepro wrote:cool, that's a nice sidebar.

It compiles, let's ship it!

Will resolve itself when http://reactos.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=676 gets fixed.counting_pine wrote:Oh, by the way, just thought I'd mention, there's a slight colour discontinuity on the sidebar, between the bitmap and the solid colour part. Would that be easy to fix?

The KDE 4.x project has some pretty interesting GUI twists. Some mockups can be seen at:
http://dannya.kde-forum.org/mockups/plasma/images.html
I like the idea of using a Super Karamba like bar along the bottom taskbar and moving the taskbar items to a scorlling list:

The clock icon is used for scheduling:

There is a user-icon for switchuser and communications:
[ external image ]
A separate computer-icon is used for shutdown/lock screen:

While not perfect, these are interesting ways to tackle the GUI.

From a PR point-of-view, it would be really nice to alter the ROS UI when 0.3.0 is officially released.
Having networking, USB and enhanced stability, all in a brand new jacket, would get the ROS-project lots and lots of attention!
I don't even think it is needed to alter the UI on a "programming level" (like adding an extra search box,...). If ROS would already have a polished iconset, start button, bar and background, it would already make all the difference in the world.
I personally feel ROS should have icons à la:
http://www.everaldo.com
Or perhaps we could license the FOOOD's-iconset as the Mambo/Joomla-developers have done.
http://www.foood.net/agreement.htm
Personally I like the very simplistic design of Linspire. http://www.linspire.com/products_linspi ... creenshots. very slick and "noob"-friendly.
Perhaps the ROS-foundation could set up a small Fundable-project http://www.fundable.org in order to raise the money required to buy an iconset. Everaldo is selling iconsets for about 400$. In shares of 10$, only 40 people would have to donate. If the amount is not achieved, everbody gets his money back, without loss.
I think it works better then "just donating", as this has a more "defined" goal.
We could always of course send an email to Arvid Axelsson, who designed the firefox and Firebird-logo, and ask him if he would like to support the ROS-project by making us an iconset. His website: http://www.quadrone.org/
To sum up: I personally believe icon's and the entire UI color scheme is incredible important. They define how people "experience" ROS. If the next release has those cool new features and therefore "mature" ROS, I think the UI should also be a bit more "mature"...
Of course, I do not mean any disrespect to the current UI and the work done by the people responsible. They have done a wonderful job!
greetings,
sfinx.

Those are great! Would love to see them in ReactOS.stefan wrote:I'm not in the Ui-Team, but i've created some icons:

I must agree with Sfinx, people often judge things on the outlook.
Even if ReactOS would be 110% compatible with Windows XP, people would stay away from it, if it looks like Windows 3.1. It's just somekind of marketing!
If the icons won't be donated to the ReactOS project, I would support Sfinx's plan to do a special fundraise for the icons.
To Stefan: indeed VERY nice icons, I love them. I hope they get into ReactOS.
