USB Support
I have been browsing the wiki and the mailing lists to see if the USB support is evolving, but I find no fresh information, do anyone know if it is included in 0.2.7 or will be in 0.3.0? There is some info in the changelog for 0.3.0, but it's not very new.

someone is working on USB I cant remember who.
the other day in the irc room someone said they where happy with what they had done with USB that day.
sorry for the vague info, but at least someone is working on it. (and they are happy with how it is going.
I don't think it will be in the 0.2.7 release. hopefully there will be some USB working in 0.3.0.

23:12 <@Fireball> Wow: "USB connected: Black Silver (SWISSBIT)"!!
23:12 <@Fireball> I can see the driver really communicated with the device somehow!
23:12 <+jjkola> whoa, nice
23:13 <@Fireball> I have some bugs in timer/scheduling - slow as hell (10 secs per update, instead of 500ms), but I'm so pleased
23:13 <+jjkola> that's big step forward
23:15 <+BrandonTurner> was it eric's commit that did it?
23:19 <@GreatLord> Fireball : nice
23:20 <@Fireball>
23:20 <@Fireball> I think filip and especially hpoussin will be glad
23:20 <@GreatLord> Fireball commit
23:20 <@Fireball> no-no, wait a little
23:21 <@Fireball> it's so much changes
23:21 <+BrandonTurner> ahhh, you have local changes
23:22 <@GreatLord> BrandonTurner : Fireball is our USB devloper
23:23 <@GreatLord> he took the linux usb stack and modify it so it fit in windows design
23:23 <@GreatLord> Fireball when can we see all these great changes
23:24 <@Fireball> very soon. I admit I haven't had enough motivation to do usb, because it wasn't working. But now - it starts to really work, so I will finish it quickly
23:24 <@GreatLord> very soon today ?
23:25 <@Fireball> no, tomorrow I will commit my changes
23:25 <@GreatLord> k
23:25 <@Fireball> and then I think within a week I will have mouse/keyboard drivers working
23:26 <+BrandonTurner> ahhh, i thought hpoussin was doing usb, hpoussin is doing pnp then right?
23:26 <@GreatLord> I have been stuck on DMA and now you got it working
23:26 <+jjkola> whohoo
23:26 <+jjkola> it's good to have usb working
23:26 <@GreatLord> BrandonTurner : hpoussin is doing pnp for we need it for usb
23:26 <@GreatLord> and fireball usb

Mail from mr. Bragin
Hi all of you interested in the USB development, I got a mail from mr. Bragin, I thought it was of common interest, so I post it here:
- 1) When do you think user level USB support will be ready (beta)?
- it should be ready before 0.3.0
2) Will ReactOS have own keyboard and mouse drivers included so no need for strange driver installation would be needed for those devices?
- yes, drivers will be supplied by us for now, because supporting
3rd party drivers is always harder, but we will support them also,
just a little bit later
3) Will ReactOS have support for USB memorysticks/HDD:s?
- sure, but it needs more time - since no work has been done in this
direction yet
4) Will PnP be supported to install drivers needed?
- I don't actively develop PnP, I think Herve Poussineu and Filip
Navara know more about current state of drivers installation by pnp
manager, but AFAIK it only needs user-mode dialog to be implented +
some functions in setupapi.dll
5) Are you the only developer contributing to the USB-stack now after Mark has stopped (due to a new employment)?
No, in fact we wanted to work in team with Mark, but unfortunately
for some reasons he couldn't take part in this. So now I'm working
with hpoussin - and we usually represent our collaboration this way:
Aleksey is making linux usb stack working under reactos, and Herve is
making this stack compatible with Windows XP's one.
6) I would be happy to see an updated the wiki page(http://reactos.com/wiki/index.php/USB_Stack), will you?
- I will update the wiki page soon.
0.2.7 or 0.3.0 that's the question
Well, I asked him that question, and am still waiting for answer, I'll return as fast I know anything, but I hope you're assuming the right thing.Elledan wrote:So. 0.2.7 will have basic (beta) USB support, and 0.3.0 full USB support?
USB Support to 0.3.0 NOT to 0.2.7 final
Hello again, now I have some new news, mr. Bragin says:
So, I get this from his mails: after 0.2.7 final (=not in time to) is released he think he is ready with mouse & keyboard drivers, later follows memory sticks & hdd drivers, somewhere either between keyboard drivers and hdd drivers or after hdd drivers ROS 0.3.0 will be released (=maybe memory stick to 0.3.0), it will be a truly interesting fall this year!hehe, sorry, but not that (0.2.7 Final) fast!
that is true, I can confirm that I really have communication with USB
stick I inserted in my laptop. (at least I get identification data
from it).
As soon as I re-implement a pair of functions in linux_wrapper, I
will commit my code so others could see it also.
WBR,
Aleksey Bragin.
