Change the Name

Post by coryhenrique »

How to change the name of ReactOS in Regedit, eg: Everest and other programs say that the operating system is Windows XP Professional?

I'm grateful!

I don't know the answer for certain, but I assume that Everest (etc) are looking at an internal version number and then interpretting that as being Windows XP Professional. If that's really what's happening, then there is nothing that can be put in that other programs will interpret as ReactOS.

Is there a bigger goal you're working on? Maybe we can help.

Strange. It should be detected as windows server 2003 normally
ReactOS is still in alpha stage, meaning it is not feature-complete and is recommended only for evaluation and testing purposes.

I would like to change that, because it gives greater distance from the Windows and demonstrate an operating system more unique.

Well, Setups check for the windows version you use. If you give back some unexpected crap, it will fail badly, won't allow installation at all or will install the app wrong, meaning not for the copied behavior of windows 2003/xp. Check what wine gives back and you will be surprised. It's windows, too.

Are the original DirectX Setup from Microsoft working? Or do they look for something different on the system. Do they recognize ReactOS as "original" Windows too?

I understand now, thanks!

But you know where it is written in regedit ReactOS the version of Windows 2003?
I'd like to do some tests putting other versions of Windows on ReactOS.

I am grateful!

Just so a Text search inside the registry. There are some locations with the version information. I am not on my windows pc right now. Thus you have to try it or wait till later
