About ReactOS 0.4
1) When will ReactOS 0.4 be released? Or what do you plan about releasing it? For example Q2/3 2015?
2) Which functionality will be added?
I know that fixed NTVDM/NTFS/new explorer/rewrite of memory and cache manager/ have to be finished before 0.4.0 will be released. Is there anything that I've forgotten?
3) In IndieGoGo ReactOS didn't collect money as expected. Will 0.4 be late due to this reason?
Also, share your expectations about 0.4!

Re: About ReactOS 0.4
I will try to answer as from a dev point-of-view, even if I'm not an official ReactOS spokesperson ^^
1- As far as I know there is no fixed date for 0.4 release, but I think it'll happen maybe during 2015. By the way a 0.3.17 is planned, as a "release candidate" for the 0.4.
2- You almost cited all the ones we want to have in there, we also have to want a better USB support and maybe sound too. And theming fixing. Also some win32k fixes. Some want to add also SAMBA support, but it involves work in user-mode as well as in kernel-mode.
3- Less money == less full-time devs possibly hired

Oh no... answer 3's bad... who wants delay of 0.4?
4) When will be 0.3.17 released?
5) There's approximately 1300 bugs that haven't fixed, and some of them is critical. When they will be fixed?
6) What's needed for improving software/USB/sound/Internet support?

As you might have guessed by now, there is no definite time-table. It's no use asking these questions with the expectation of getting a specific date, thus.ctasan wrote:Oh no... answer 3's bad... who wants delay of 0.4?

As a general rule, I would say, for all your questions, that it will take between 6 months (that is the minimum for anything, I noted) to 2 years. Within that timeframe, it is reasonable to expect 0.4 to be out.
In the best of cases, it will be between 3 months and 1 year from now.
It's highly unlikely it will be next week or only in a decade.

Re: About ReactOS 0.4
The long awaited ReactOS 0.4 will get more attention from computer enthusiasts than 0.3.16 did. When 0.3.16 was released many people downloaded it and tried it out. They quickly encountered problems. Some of them did not understand that ReactOS is alpha-level software. They expected ReactOS to be much more solid and bug-free. Some people went away unhappy.
Others bravely tried to report bugs. Most of them made newbie blunders. Only a very few could discover where and how to report bugs in a way that suited the ReactOS Project's established procedures. Most of them went away frustrated and unhappy too. A few were also angry at the ReactOS Project.
I wish for the ReactOS Project and its supporters (fans? hangers-on? camp followers?) to be better prepared to receive new ReactOS users before 0.4 is released. I wish everybody who tries ReactOS to enjoy their ReactOS adventure despite ReactOS's rough and troublesome alpha-level condition.

Re: About ReactOS 0.4
Testing and Testers, there are not much people that test in real hardware and only a little fractionctasan wrote: 6) What's needed for improving software/USB/sound/Internet support?
that submit a reproducible bug report.
There are also needed more devs that submit patches,
Reactos team are working to accomplish this hiring devs to develop some function.
Most bugs are only cosmetics, some need other part of the system to be fixed before, ctasan wrote: 5) There's approximately 1300 bugs that haven't fixed, and some of them is critical. When they will be fixed?
others are duplicated, unreplicable or obsolete.
Reactos has only a pair of dozen Developer and only one or two are full time devs,
so there are not enough hands to fix most of the bugs at the moment.
But if you look at jira (Bugtracker) you can see that at least a pair of bug are fixed daily.
So what you can do to speed up the incoming of 0.4 version?
Test, Ask other people to look at the project and Test.
Fill bug report and ask you friend to fill bug report also.
Submit patches or ask some friend to do.
More people are involved in testing and fixing sooner the 0.4 will arrive.

I sort of completely agree with what you said there.middings wrote:The long awaited ReactOS 0.4 will get more attention from computer enthusiasts than 0.3.16 did. It would be a good thing if one tried to lessen the frustration, thus. There sure is still a lot of work to do on that front, though. (especially by the ones in charge)

Re: About ReactOS 0.4
I am solidly of the opinion that v1.0 will be released sometime in the 21st Century. I make no predictions about the release dates for 0.4 and 0.3.17, but I expect them in the early part of the 21st Century. Sorry we can't be more specific than that.
How to speed up the process:
How to speed up the process:
- Donate money so that contracts can be awarded and devs can be hired
Submit detailed bug reports on JIRA
Tell programmers and potentially interested parties about ReacOS so that they can do the above
Travel as close to the speed of light as you can in order to make the time pass more quickly for you

Re: About ReactOS 0.4
Oh... a task has done! Perfect! According to the devs (I haven't tried), Java 7 installs fine. Works fine? I don't know.
And a guess for 0.4: Q2 or Q3 2015.
DOSGuy, that's a sarcasm for you: Seems like by the time La Sagrada Famìlia finishes, ReactOS won't be complete

How's the community edition coming along? We get some news about it, but not much. Maybe some pictures or a video of it in use would be nice.

Re: About ReactOS 0.4
Mostly it's pushing trunk in the right direction and some nice look and feel changes. For now.... more will come. ^^
ReactOS is still in alpha stage, meaning it is not feature-complete and is recommended only for evaluation and testing purposes.

Re: About ReactOS 0.4
I have another suggestion: Despite it's lack of vote and it's and suite, full stability and compatibility for Office 2003 should be provided.
Why? Because it has published with Windows Server 2003, and it's complex, so we can provide more Win32 API compatibility by supporting it. Current state: Office 2003 setup cannot register a module (see CORE-8610) and it's unstable, it can close immediately or give BSODs from ntoskrnl.exe or win32k.sys.
Also, people will want to use an office suite when switching to ReactOS from another OS. We can say: "Hey, you can use .... Office on ReactOS! It's fully compatible, stable and guarenteed!"
I started testing Office 2003 apps, so I'll write in the forum about my test results and file a bug report if needed.

Also if you report MS Word 2007 it would be awesome, since it is one of the "Most voted apps"
